Running Around the World in Search of the Cow Parade

Cattle of Gettysburg - Cow ParadeHow many of you have heard about the Cow Parade? If you haven’t it’s a world-wide parade of commissioned cow statues that have been beautifully painted by artists. These statues then go on a parade (aka a trip around the world) and other’s will find a perm. place to reside.

Several years ago the Cow Parade visited central Pennsylvania and that’s when I first learned about it. Over the years, MANY of these bovines have found a permanent home in our great state. There are entire websites dedicated to these beautiful artworks where you an learn more about them, the artists who painted/designed them and where hundreds of them are located around the world.

Cow Parade - Joe-Pa Penn State

In my particular state, I’m aware of at least a dozen, if not more that call this area home. Today, I’m featuring three of them in my travel post for this week.

The first photo shows you the “Cattle of Gettysburg” cow statue that has a confederate flag and union flag as it’s design. These are the two armies that fought in Gettysburg during the infamous Battle of Gettysburg.

The second photo in this post shows you the “Joe-Pa” cow statue that represents Joe Paterno, the famous Penn State football coach.  This one makes my husband smile because he’s a huge Penn State football fan.

Cow Parade Statue - Arches Over the River

The third photo in this post shows you the “Arches over the River” cow statue which depicts the world-famous bridges that run over the Susquehanna River in the city of Harrisburg Pennsylvania. This design is very creative and artistic.

Over the past 5 years we’ve located at least of dozen of these cow statues across the great state of Pennsylvania. Now that we’ve been educating ourselves on them, we’re hoping to find even more as we travel across the country and abroad.

Have you seen any of the Cow Parade statues? If so, where? Got any favorites?
