Title: Retro Cross Stitch: 500 Patterns
Author: Veronique Enginger
Publisher: Schiffer Publishing
ISBN: 978-0-7643-5479-3
Many of the designs include multiple elements, offering you hundreds of components to use in a myriad of ways. Throughout, be inspired by “mood boards” of completed motifs, along with photos of projects that will show off your creations.
This is a hardcover book containing 192 pages with 500 patterns/motifs. The book is broken down into easy-to-use chapters, starting off with Chapter 1 – Basic Information. From there you’ll explore Chapter 2 – A Touch of Nostalgia, Chapter 3 – Chocolate, Tea, Coffee, Chapter 4 – Fabulous Journeys and Chapter 5 – Fashion.
If you’ve never tried your hand at cross stitching, you can learn all of the basics in Chapter 1 with step-by-step directions and diagrams. You’ll learn how to make various stitches and learn about all of the supplies that you’ll need to stitch up the motifs.
There are color photographs throughout the book of completed projects to give you some ideas on how you can use your completed motifs to make some really cool items for yourself, your home or to give as gifts. I really like that the author gives you the floss colors (numbers) to help guide you if you want to replicate her specific design.

I have not done cross-stitching since I was a little girl. I would love to recapture the joy of doing it,perhaps when my granddaughter is a little older.
I used to watch my grandma do this as a child, and so I started doing simple designs when I was young. Great memories. I would love to do this as an activity with my daughters once they get a little older.
It would be fun to see all the old designs. My sister does cross stitch and would love this book.
I used to do counted cross-stitch while I watched TV. I have some lovely pieces. Haven’t done one in years. Unfortunately my eyes just don’t work as well as they did!
I LOVE counted cross stitching. It is relaxing to me. This book looks great!
It has been forever since I have done cross stitching and I really do enjoy it. This book looks really fun thanks for the great review.
