While Glow in the Dark Glue is great for slime, it also can be used for any arts and crafts projects that kids, parents and teachers might be making. Whether it is used for decoration or gluing, Glow in the Dark Glue provides endless possibilities. For the best results, expose the glue to light for at least two minutes before turning off the lights to watch it glow.
Glow in the Dark Glue comes in three different colors—Natural, Pink and Blue—and is available for purchase at nationwide retailers such as Target, Walmart, Michaels and Staples.
We received 3 complimentary bottles of the new Elmer’s Glow in the Dark Glue for this crafting with kids feature. We decided to use them to make homemade glow-in-the-dark slime and followed the recipe on the Elmer’s website. The glue has micro-fine glitter inside it…so we call it Glow-in-the-Dark Glitter Slime! If you don’t wear contact lenses, you can pick up inexpensive contact lens solution at a dollar-type of store. You will need to store your new slime in little plastic storage containers or zipper-closure plastic bags. Again, go to the dollar-type of store to save money.
Elmer’s Recipe for Glow in the Dark Slime
5 oz Elmer’s Glow in the Dark Glue
1/2 tbsp of baking soda
1 tbsp of contact lens solution
Pour out entire contents of the 5 fl oz Elmer’s Glow in the Dark Glue into a bowl. Add 1/2 tbsp of baking soda and mix thoroughly. Add 1 tbsp of contact lens solution. Mix until mixture gets harder to mix and slime begins to form. Take the slime out and begin kneading with both of your hands. If it’s too sticky, add 1/4 tbsp contact lens solution and knead. Keep adding 1/4 tbsp contact lens solution until desired consistency.
My granddaughter had a wonderful time making the Elmer’s Glow-in-the-Dark Glitter Slime and plays with it often. It’s a really stretchy-type of slime, but yet it’s not sticky. Plus, I love that it doesn’t stain up her hands with “color” like some of your other type’s of homemade and store-bought slime.
Some Tips: Make sure the kids wash their hands thoroughly before and after making/playing with the slime. Next, we found it best to store it in plastic zipper-closure bags. You can knead the product right in the bags and when you’re ready to store it, purge out the air and zip-close. I also suggest that you label and date your storage bags/containers and store out of reach of small children & pets. They recommend letting it sit underneath light for a few minutes for the “glowing effect”, but I found it best to just let it sit on a windowsill in sunlight for 3-4 hours and then it will glow for hours later that night.
