The full title of this book is The 12-Week Diabetes Cookbook: Your Super Simple Plan for Organizing, Budgeting, and Cooking Amazing Dinners. That about says it all! If you struggle to get a variety of delicious meals on the table with minimum fuss, you’ll find help and inspiration here, for sure.

The 12-Week Diabetes Cookbook

The 12-Week Diabetes Cookbook takes the hassle out of the process of planning family dinners that are both diabetes- and budget-friendly. The weekly shopping lists include everything you’ll need to make that week’s dinners, right down to the spices and condiments. But it goes even further than that, helpfully detailing the exact amount of each ingredient needed for that week’s recipes. For example, if the week’s shopping list includes 4 tablespoons of reduced-fat mayonnaise but you’ve already got a jar in your refrigerator, you can skip the mayo when you’re out shopping. And to make your shopping trip even easier, the lists are broken down by department to streamline your time at the store. Easy-peasy.

Like all good cookbooks, The 12-Week Diabetes Cookbook has, at its heart, a great collection of recipes. The recipes are thoughtfully organized into weekly menus that take into account weeknight time constraints, but still provide a diverse assortment of flavors and styles. The variety will keep your family coming back for more, with meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetarian meals from many different cuisines. Here’s a sampling:

• Five-Spice Chicken with Chinese Noodles
• Onion, Pepper, and Mushroom Pizza
• Pan-Seared Scallops with Vegetable Medley Rice
• Chicken Tacos with Pinto Bean Salad
• Pasta Primavera
• Mexican Fiesta Bowl
• Meat Loaf with Mashed Sweet Potatoes
• Teriyaki Turkey with Quick Cashew Rice
• Shrimp Scampi with Basil Linguine
• Beef Fajitas with Corn Salad

The 12-Week Diabetes Cookbook

Not all of the recipes have accompanying photographs. Instead, there are two separate sections of full-color pictures of a few of the completed meals, which is more than enough to let you know that you can indeed make mouthwatering diabetes-friendly meals that fit your budget.

The 12-Week Diabetes Cookbook is available for purchase at the ADA’s online store. For more information about living with diabetes, visit the ADA’s website.
