How to Put Together Your Own First Aid Kit

How to Put Together Your Own First Aid KitHow many of you have a current and updated first aid kit in your home? I know many people don’t and just rely on whatever they have sitting in their medicine cabinet. In my honest opinion, every home should have a first aid kit and it should include everything that you would need for a minor illness or minor home accident. Let’s face it, no one wants to run out to the corner drug store when they’re sick or to pick up supplies when they need them most.

Instead of purchasing a first aid kit, I decided to put together my own. Matter of fact, I have several of them. We take one kit with us when we travel, one that is kept in our home and a smaller one is kept in each vehicle. It’s always BEST to be prepared.

Depending on your needs, you’ll need a plastic storage container with locking lid or a storage bag to hold everything together. You’ll want to keep your kit out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Caboodles Doctor Bag

Inside each of our kits we keep a laminated card with all of our doctor’s contact information, medical problems listed for each family member and our blood type’s. We also keep a copy of all of our medical insurance cards inside the kit too! In a true emergency, we can grab the entire kit and just go! If you don’t want to drag your kit with you when going out the door, store those type’s of items in a zipper-closure plastic bag and just grab that!

In my first kit which is shown in photograph #1 you’ll see that I have our supplies packed into a plastic storage container. I keep the smaller items separated by using plastic zipper-closure bags. This also ensures that items stay clean, dry and bug-free when in storage.

When you look at my second kit that I have put together, I have my items stored in a Caboodles Doctor Bag that I reviewed here on the blog. It has inside storage compartments and elastic straps which are perfect for all of the medical supplies to stay neatly organized. I call this our “grab-n-go” bag.
