Why and How Should You Meditate? Essentials You Must Know for Desired Results

December 8, 2017 by Jenelle

It is no secret that meditation is a great way to relax your mind. While it once used to be a part of people’s daily schedule, over time many had started to give it a pass in favor some momentary pleasures like watching TV. However, with time, life only gets more and more demanding. Today’s hectic lifestyle does not just leave you physically exhausted but mentally tired too. A recent study suggests that today’s youngsters who are still students or those who have just started running in the professional rat-race are finding it increasingly difficult to connect with others emotionally. Engaging in anything that demands their undivided attention and uncompromised dedication, seems to be too tiring for them.

Why and How Should You Meditate?

It is important to meditate to preserve emotional and psychological stability:

It is this mental fatigue that you must battle to live life to the fullest and not just survive. Otherwise, life’s various demands can potentially exhaust you to even madness. That is not a favorable situation to be in. Moreover, why would you risk this instability when you can have better control over your life as well as your mind just by meditating for some time every day? It will not be wrong to say that meditating for some time every day is necessary to live a healthy lifestyle that is not plagued by various forms of stress.

Reasons to meditate regularly:

The benefits of regular meditation are practically endless, but the most important ones in the context of today’s hectic lifestyle are:

* Better sleep for complete rest
* Less stress and happier thoughts
* No stress eating and unwanted weight gain
* Reduced pain and faster healing
* Calmer mind and enhanced concentration

Meditation is useful but takes times to show results:

It would be wrong to think that you would be instantly relieved of stress, feel light-hearted, or more in control of your life as soon as you start meditating. One or two days of meditation will hardly yield any results. You must understand that meditation, though effective, is not magic. Instead, it is a systematic practice. Moreover, like any other practice, it demands diligence before you start benefiting from it. Thus, you must not lose patience after a couple of days and give up on the training altogether. Be dedicated and patient, and you will start to feel the change before long.

It must be noted here that many people start meditation without a clear idea of how to go about it, and they often give up the practice after a few days when they notice no remarkable change or effect. Here one must ask what are short term goal, and what are the long-term ones. The short-term goal for someone who has just started meditating is focusing on only one thought at a time, and the long-term goal is to control one’s mind rather than letting it control their life. Achieving these goals require a guided approach. So, it is better to get in touch with a Yoga or meditation instructor when starting the practice to get the best results.

Although I have never tried this , I find that meditation does work well for many people. I might give it a try.

I used to use meditation techniques when I was in school and would get very nervous about an exam or presentation. I found it very useful to calm myself and to not feel overwhelmed. I have not done it in years and years but appreciate how useful it can be.

I have thought many times about learning how to meditate. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder amny years ago and have learned how to control it. Can’t help to think that meditation would get me ahead of the problem. Thanks for this post.
