Family Movie Night: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

August 15, 2017 by Jenelle

Here in the mid-Atlantic states, our kids are getting ready to head back-to-school. Once school starts up again, we’ll have less time to spend together as a family. Throughout the summer we’ve been hosting “family movie nights” every week. We go out of our way to make these movie nights special for the kids – complete with pizza, appetizers, popcorn and drinks.

Last weekend we had the opportunity to watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul that we received for review. Here’s some information about the movie.

* Complimentary DVD Received for Review & Feature.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - The Long Haul DVD

Synopsis: Pack your bags and load up the minivan for more fun with new laughs and new hilariously “wimpy” mischief! In Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, the Heffley family road trip to Meemaw’s 90th birthday celebration takes a wild detour thanks to Greg’s newest scheme to attend a video gaming convention. Based on one of the best-selling book series of all time, this crazy, cross-country adventure turns into an experience the Heffley’s will never forget!

The DVD was released on August 8th, 2017 for purchase on Blu-ray, DVD and Video on Demand. Rated PG with a total run time of 91 minutes in length.

Our Thoughts: The Big E and I sat down with both of our children to watch this new movie release. Our son is almost 2 years old and our daughter is 8 years old. My daughter is a big fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and did see the previous movie a few times. As a parent, I’m really out-of-the-loop on Diary of a Wimpy Kid, so I admit…this was new to me.

We get tired of always watching fully-animated movies with the kids, so it was really refreshing to sit down and watch something different with them. This movie has a really nice story line, one that the entire family will enjoy. We found the movie to be very entertaining, different and if you love comedies, I think you’ll find it to be extremely funny in a lot of places.

My mom rates movies via her popcorn bucket rating scale, so I’ll do the same. We’re giving Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul  movie 8 popcorn buckets out of 10. It’s available for purchase now and Amazon has it available for a really great price.

I am really glad to hear that this movie is entertaining and appropriate for the kids. My granddaughter is also a big fan of the books so it would be a nice choice. I like having these family friendly comedies.

Today was the first day back for the Los Angeles unified school districts and I live across from a high school, so it’s especially busy and congested. I am also new to this series and have wondered if it was any good. I would like the change of pace as well since I think we have too many similar types of movies out there. The movie’s story line sounds fun and I would watch it with the kids and enjoy it.
