Like most children, my granddaughter loves a good-tasting milkshake. While I will treat her to one once in awhile when we’re out and about…I prefer to make them for her at home. Why you might ask? Well, because I can totally control the ingredients!
Last weekend she was over for a sleep-over and we decided to make one. This is one of her favorites and it’s super easy to make!
Blueberry Banana Milkshake Recipe
4 cups Vanilla Bean ice cream
4-6 tablespoons whole milk
1/2 of a banana
1/4 to 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, mostly thawed
1/4 teaspoon organic honey
Place all of the ingredients into your blender container. Cover and gently blend for 10-15 seconds. It shouldn’t take much longer that that. You only want to blend the ingredients, not turn them into runny fruity milk! Remove blender container and leave it covered. Sit it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, to help thicken it up. Remove and spoon the milkshake into a cup and serve immediately.
Optional: You can serve them with a small dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top, which we often do when I have fresh cherries around. If you don’t like them sweet, you can omit the honey. If you have frozen bananas in the freezer, remove one from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before tossing half of it into the blender.

I have not made a milkshake in a long time I love adding the blueberries and banana to the ice cream to make it healthier. I know I would enjoy this drink.
This looks super yummy and healthy with the banana and blueberries. Adding that dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top would certainly make it seem extra special. I know my granddaughter loves making and drinking the smoothies we make.
Oh, this would be great on a Summer’s day. I love blueberries & bananas, so it’s all good by me!
My niece, about your granddaughter’s age I think , adores the same mixture with strawberries. I have them frozen on hand all of the time.
I use frozen bananas and frozen blueberries in my smoothies that I make with vanilla soy milk. It comes out creamy like ice cream.
I know your granddaughter doesn’t have a hard time eating but these are excellent for those picky eaters, young and old. We used to hand-make milkshakes for some cancer patients, when they just wouldn’t drink their nutritional drink (can’t blame them). So many have allergies now, it’s necessary to sub for milk, nuts, etc. Bananas are usually a pretty safe food though.
