When I’m looking for an easy-to-prepare meal to bring the entire family to the table, I turn to Manwich which is always a staple in my pantry closet. Manwich is a sweet & tangy sauce that can be used to make Sloppy Joes and so much more! We like using the Manwich Original and the Manwich Thick & Chunky in all kinds of different recipes! Often times I’ll use their sweet & tangy sauce when I make homemade tacos, as a topping for baked potatoes, in various pasta casseroles and in one of my family’s favorite recipes, this homemade Sweet & Tangy Pastry Roll Casserole. If you’re looking for something with a little bit more kick to it, I would recommend the Manwich Bold.
Every time I make this particular casserole, my family comes running to the table, including my 2 grandchildren! It’s one meal that I can make that everyone enjoys!
Manwich Sweet & Tangy Pastry Roll Casserole Recipe
1 can Manwich Original
2 cans Crescent-Shaped Pastry Rolls
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 1/2 cups diced tomatoes
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup Italian cheese blend, shredded
1/4 stick butter, melted
non-stick baking spray
Spray a 9″ by 13″ glass baking dish with non-stick baking spray. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Unroll one can of the crescent-shaped rolls and lay out the dough flat in the bottom of your prepared baking pan. If you need to fill in any gaps, rip apart one of the crescents to do that. Place baking dish into a preheated oven and bake for approximately 8 minutes, until the dough is almost done and is a light golden brown color.
While the dough is baking, prepare the can of Manwich Original with the 1 lb. of lean ground beef, following the instructions on the can. Set aside.
Once your dough is done baking, remove baking dish from the oven. Use a large spoon to spoon the prepared Manwich on top of the dough in an even layer. Mix together the shredded cheese and sprinkle it over the top of the meat sauce. Spread the diced tomatoes over the top. Open up the remaining can of crescent rolls and roll out the dough to make an even layer on top of the cheese. Melt a 1/4 stick of butter in the microwave and spoon it over top of the top layer of unbaked dough.
Place the baking dish back into the oven. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until done. You will know when it’s done by the dough turning golden brown on top. Once done, remove from oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
My husband and son-in-law like to add a big spoonful of Peach Mango Salsa on top of their’s when enjoying it. The rest of the family enjoys it made the regular way. If you love salsa, you may want to try their version of it if desired.
*Note* I apologize for the darkened photos, we were running on generator power while I was preparing dinner!
