Summertime is just around the corner. It’s the perfect time to visit the beach, go snorkeling, and try a new water sport. It is also that time of the year when people are hunting for the best summer getup. I don’t see anything wrong with wearing a bikini for women or going topless for men. Imagine how those people worked hard to get that “beach body” they always wanted. But if you would ask me about the best thing to wear at the beach, I will only answer rashies. In this post, I will share with you why I swear by rash guards and what are things to look for when buying one.
Rash guards or rashies are athletic shirts usually made of spandex and nylon or polyester. The main purpose of a rash guard is to protect the skin from the sun. It is more practical than reapplying sun creams when you are exposed to the sun. On the other hand, there are some rashies designed to keep you warm in the water. I am referring to a thermal rash guard. You will need it when you are in the water that is too cold for bare skin. It is best worn when doing ocean sports and water aerobics.
What to look for when buying your rash guard? Below are factors to consider in finding the perfect rashies for you.
Style
Rash guards come in a variety of styles. There are full-body rash guards and vest-type rash guards. They come in short-sleeved and long-sleeved cuts. You can look at women’s rash guards online for a wide variety. Choose those with long sleeves if you need extra protection. Go for the short sleeve if you prefer more freedom in moving. Or better have loose-fitting ones for more comfort. There are also rash guard shorts available. You may use it as an alternative to swimming trunks when you surf.
Color
In general, colors like blue and red are good at blocking the sun’s UV Rays. The color of the fabric matters when protecting your skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays. Wearing a white rash guard when you are exposed to the sun for a long period of time sort of beat the purpose of using it.
Fabric
Nylon-spandex is the best choice if you want a breathable and easy-drying rash guard. Neoprene is the material used for thermal ones. Like nylon-spandex, spandex types also dry quickly and offer a good stretch. If you prefer maximum breathability, select one made of polyester. Whatever fabric you choose, look for ones that have at least a UPF of 50 to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays.
Aside from the style, color, and fabric, you might also want to consider the thickness of your rashies. The thicker it is, the more warmth it provides. We are all different in terms of style and personal preferences. But remember that when choosing a rash guard, what matters most is the quality. You know, I have never heard of these! I have seen some of those sunblocking shirts but I think just for kids. It isnt like I am a bathing beauty anymore…. goodness knows no one wants to see this mess in a bikini for many years ha! Thiis would be good for other things though, like gardening. I would likely choose the loose fitting style.
