Being pregnant is one of the most wonderful things that a woman can experience. We carry the baby in our womb for approximately 40 weeks and anxiously await his or her’s arrival. During pregnancy, many mother’s -to-be elect to have a 3D Ultrasound of the baby growing inside them. Seeing your baby’s face on the screen or in a photograph, is a great way to start bonding with your new child.
5 tips to Consider Before Getting a 3D Ultrasound
1. Make your appointment with a reputable clinic or fetal ultrasound practice. Make sure that the technician has had proper education & training and is certified to do them. In addition, will the technician be the ONLY one reading the ultrasound or will a doctor be looking over it too?
2. The most ideal time to have this test done is between 27 weeks and 32 weeks in your pregnancy. However, if you’re just interested in knowing the gender of the baby, that can be determined as early as 17 weeks gestation.
3. For the best images, you’ll want to consume a lot of water which will help to increase the amniotic fluid. Start 2 days before and continue to drink a lot of water up to 1 hour before your appointment time. Not a water drinker? Fruit juice is acceptable too, but please avoid soft drinks that have caffeine.
4. On the day of your appointment you’ll want to wear comfortable clothing! Some facilities will allow you to wear your own clothing during the scan, while others may have you changeover into a hospital-type of gown. If you’re allowed to wear your own clothing, the technician will be moving you around into different positions to get the best possible views of your baby.
5. Bring along dad! This is a great time for both parents to bond with the baby! Asking for pictures and/or video to remind you of this special occasion.
Getting a 3D ultrasound is a fun way to get a sneak peek at your growing baby inside the womb. They can determine the sex of the child, see if there are multiples, catch your child sucking his or her thumb and all kinds of other fun things! Knowing what to expect beforehand, will help to reduce stress and provide you with a pleasant experience.
I think that it is great to now have the ultrasound in 3D. It is a wonderful experience for both ,mom and dad. I had forgotten about drinking all that water until you mentioned it because then i remembered that the pressure on the bladder was uncomfortable!
Back in the day, there wasnt 3D. It is amazing just how detailed the 3D images are. It really is almost like seeing the baby before it is born. I think they are so cool to see.
I’ve seen some of the images from family’s & friend’s 3D ultrasounds, & they are amazing. You can see so much more than you can on a regular ultrasound.
