Train Rides at the Williams Grove Railroad
A few months ago we took the grandchildren for a train ride at the Williams Grove Railroad located in Dillsburg Pennsylvania. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, Dillsburg is located in south central PA, about a 20 minute car ride from Harrisburg.
Last Labor Day they were hosting a 4-day event and had all kinds of old vintage farm equipment on display. I had never seen a steam powered farm tractor before and the had hundreds of them on exhibit. My little grandson loved seeing all of those old farm tractors up close & personal.
In addition, the Williams Grove Railroad offers steam engine train rides from May through October every year (regularly scheduled train rides) and then special rides during hosted events. These passenger trains are pulled by old steam engines and finished off with old red cabooses.
On the weekend that we visited, the entire family went for a train ride and it was super cool. My granddaughter and grandson had never been on a train before and both of them loved it. Plus, it was super affordable at only $4.00 per person with kids under the age of 2…free!
Since we were there earlier in the day…they also had their Sunday Flea Market going on, so after our train ride we headed on over to the food vendor trucks and grabbed ourselves a quick bite to eat. Surprisingly, the food wasn’t too bad!
There is a LOT of things to see and do if you visit them during a special event weekend, like we did. There are aisles upon aisles of old farming equipment, tractors, railroad items, etc. on display. Plus, there are vendors you can shop from and you can certainly grab a bite to eat.
We had a great time and we heard that they hold these special events twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. We will definitely be visiting the Williams Grove Railroad again! Choo-Choo!!!
