Star Wars 3D Metal Model Kits – Hubby’s Newest Hobby Obsession

Star Wars 3D Metal Model KitsI met my husband back in the mid 1980’s and ever since I’ve known him, he’s been a huge Star Wars fan. Matter of fact, when we moved in together (years ago) we had to make moving arrangements for his massive Star Wars collection!

In his Star Wars collection, he has hundreds of different figures, games, toys, an R2D2 life-size hamper, models, apparel items, Christmas ornaments and all kinds of different things. I would estimate that his collection has grown to over 1,000 Star Wars items over the years.

Star Wars 3D Metal Model Kits R2D2

For the past few months my husband has been collecting the Fascinations Star Wars Metal Earth 3D Model Kits and just loves them! They’re metal model kits for grown-ups! He’s been collecting and building them for 2 reasons: 1. to add to his collection of items and 2. it’s a good way to sit down & relax after a long day at work.

The metal model kits come in flat sheets with metal pieces that you pop out. They are very small pieces, but once they’re assembled you’ll have a 3D metal model. The pieces are from museum-quality, steel sheets, so they will last for years if you properly take care of them. No glue, adhesive or solder is needed! Simply pop out the pieces and connect using tabs and holes.

Star Wars 3D Metal Model Kits C-3PO

It takes my husband several days and up to one full week to build one Star Wars metal model. He likes to use a pair of tweezers when working on them to help bend & twist the connection tabs, but other than that…you don’t need any tools to assemble them.

So far, he’s built 5 of them over the past two months and we’ve been buying them from Amazon. You can find all kinds of different Star Wars figures, ships, etc. in the 3D Metal Model Kit form and they’re reasonably priced. Right now he’s working on his new C-3PO Metal Model Kit that I purchased from Amazon, now that he’s completed his R2D2 model. Cute!

Anyway, this is my husband’s newest hobby obsession and I wanted to share it with all of you who may have Star Wars fans in your family. Both of the kits that I’m featuring today are available at Amazon and BOTH of them we’ve personally purchased, so you’re getting my 100% unbiased opinion on them! Check out the 3D Metal Millennium Falcon that he recently built. It’s super-cool.

Wow. Your husband is really a big Stars War collector. I am glad that he enjoys it so much and loves to make the models.

  2. I have a friend who is also a Star Wars fanatic. She’s very crafty and would like trying her hand at these.

  3. I like the Stargate franchise rather than Star Wars. I’ve watched Stargate Universe, SG-1, and Stargate Atlantis (currently on the Comet/scifi station and seeing some I haven’t seen before!) I can understand the fascination but I’m trying to pare down my things so I’ll make a note of the kits for gifts.

Now, these are different! I havent looked at prices, but I would imagine they would be a bit more expensive and rightfully so. I like how they re connected b tabs etc- no glue. I also like being metal they arent going to get to be ugly after awhile as newer models do.

  5. We have some major Star Wars fans in our family. I think they would really love to make these models. I think these would also make some great gift for some of the boys in the family and I love that price thanks for sharing this one.
