A couple of months ago my husband and I spent a wonderful weekend away up in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. If you’ve never visited the Poconos, it’s definitely a place that you’ll want to add to your travel bucket list, especially if you love being up in the mountains.
You can read about our Weekend Getaway to Mount Airy Resort by reading my previous post on the resort. Again, let me say this…we had a wonderful time staying there in luxurious accommodations, enjoyed some spa treatments, ate delicious food and hubby even won a little bit of money in the casino. Yay!
One one particular afternoon we ventured out for a little ride to see what was nearby the resort and stumbled upon the “Our Lady of the Poconos Grotto Shrine” which is absolutely gorgeous! My photo doesn’t do it any justice!
People of all faiths are welcomed to visit the shrine to pray, meditate or just sit there to relax. Since I’m catholic, I spent some time praying and afterwards…I just sat there (in peace) and took in the beauty of this shrine! It’s surrounded by beautiful woodlands and it’s really peaceful to sit there.
On the day that we visited…no one was there, so hubby and I lit our candles, prayed and were able to sit uninterrupted by anyone else. It was fantastic! Just looking around, you can see all of the candles that people have lit, their little prayer messages that they’ve left behind, flowers, crosses, etc. It’s really something to see!
If any of you ever get up to Mount Pocono and if you’re religious (any faith) stop on by the Our Lady of the Poconos Grotto Shrine.

I keep hearing how beautiful the Poconos are and would love one day to get in that area. This grotto iss\ beautiful. Being of the same faith we would enjoy seeing it. It iss amazing, I wonder if it is older or a new addition?
I does look like a gorgeous place. Of course, I’m a very practical person, lol, so my first thought was ‘I hope someone is in charge of watching those candles. You don’t want a forest fire.’ Yep that’s me. I can’t stop being a worry-wart!
THis looks like such a peaceful place to sit, pray and contemplate. I know that my husband and I would enjoy visiting this shrine.
