It’s hard to believe, but we are now into the year 2017. One of my New Year’s resolutions for this year is to eat less processed foods and to make more of our foods & meals from scratch. It’s part of my plan to eat even more healthier than I already do, but yet…still enjoy some sweet treats now & then too!
During the year I’ll be sharing a lot of recipes with all of you that are simple to make, only require a few ingredients and will hopefully get us all to make more of our foods from scratch!
This easy-to-make homemade vanilla frosting recipe is pretty easy to whip up. You can use it to top off freshly baked cupcakes, brownies, cakes or even spread it on a loaf of artisan sweet bread. Depending on what you’re making, you may have to double up the recipe. In addition, check out my flavor variations below the recipe for some additional options.
Easy Homemade Vanilla Frosting Recipe
1/3 cup butter, softened (not margarine)
3 cups sifted confectioners’ 10X sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 to 4 tablespoons cold milk
In a medium-sized mixing bowl beat together the softened butter and the confectioners’ 10X sugar until creamy & fluffy. Beat in the vanilla extract and cold milk. Note: You may need to use less or more milk, so only beat in one tablespoon at a time until the frosting is the consistency that you like. Once it’s fluffy and creamy, it’s ready for spreading.
Tips: If you want to flavor your frosting with something else, you’ll want to replace the vanilla extract with a different extract. For example: I sometimes will replace it with orange extract, chocolate extract or lemon extract, depending on the flavor that I’m trying to achieve.

I have never made frosting but this looks like I could do it. I watched Kids Bakeoff (I think that is the name) and these little kids 8 – 12 were baking and talking like pros. They were making this icing and that icing
I also use this recipe but now I am doing it more sugar free since I’m diabetic. I substitute the butter with margarine & yes it will still taste like frosting. I substitute all of the powdered sugar with a splenda alternative I like called Apriva from kroger brands. It is way way cheaper than the splenda. I do add 2 tsps. of the vanilla extract to it. So by using these ingredents it is healthier and still tastes really good.
This is my go to recipe for frosting cupcakes and cookies. I like how easy and versatile it is . I like to substitute lemon or mint to have a little different flavor at times.
I agree that this is a recipe that I’ve used for a long time. Who needs the cupcakes?
This looks so yummy! I love trying out new recipes. Thanks for sharing.
THis is the basic recipe that I have used. it is easy to make and tastes good too.
This is the recipe I’ve always used too. Sometimes, I use cream cheese, too, for a cream cheese frosting. I honestly could eat just the frosting, lol, forget the cake!
