Donating used pianos to schools has become a trend, and it’s one that teachers, kids and parents appreciate. The beneficiaries of these used pianos include schools in some of the most impoverished areas of the country. In some places, kids live in shelters or they’re homeless. When kids are able to sing along with a piano, or even play the piano in school, it can help to expand their horizons, and can bring joy to their lives.
It’s been proven that arts education in schools is beneficial, but the sad fact is that many arts programs are being cut because they’re considered to be a luxury. Studies have even shown a relationship between students having access to arts programs and improved academic performance and achievement.
The Biggest Benefits of Arts Education Fostered by Donations
Many students show an improvement in their mood and in their motivation to study more and learn more effectively when music education is added to their school curriculum. Other students simply look forward to keeping up their school attendance when they know they have something artistic and expressive like music to look forward to. Some of the best benefits of arts education in schools include:
– Improvements in attendance
– Gives benefits to at-risk students
– Encourages concepts like self-directed learning
– Directs student’s energy in a positive direction
– Encourages creativity and artistic expression
– Brightens up the atmosphere at school
Piano and Other Musical Instrument Donations Enrich Lives
While various piano donations to schools have been done through philanthropic organizations and by individuals, there have also been street pianos in ny that were recently donated, making a big impact on many urban schools. These kids get a clear message that they are valued, and that their talent is appreciated. The simple act of musical instrument donation can have profound and far-reaching effects on the lives of students.
Pianos can be used not only in school music classes, they can also be used during assemblies and during theatrical plays and performances put on by students. This gives students a wealth of diverse artistic endeavors to pursue, enriching their lives. Many students share the sentiment that music classes quickly become the best part of their school day. Giving students hope and something to look forward to are the biggest rewards of donating musical instruments to schools.
I believe that having kids learn the different arts makes a big difference in their ability to learn and understand the world around them. I wish schools would out them back in the curriculum
I am a big believer that music and the arts enrich and help students in both academics and in their lives. Wonderful that there is a donation program like this but with school budgets being cut these opportunites would not be there for many.
