Personal Safety Tech: Apps to Help Take the Danger Out of Your Life

Personal safety is on the minds of everyone. We live in an era where there are increasing natural disasters, such as flooding, blizzards, tornadoes, and earthquakes. There is also a greater threat of terror attacks than ever before. Everyone needs to have emergency communication apps installed on their mobile devices and have their GPS turned on at all times. An app can mean the difference between life and death. Rescue efforts are made easier when GPS tracking is available to first responders. There are a number of apps designed specifically to guard personal safety.

Life 360

This is a great “peace of mind” app that keeps family members and friends connected with a map. If you haven’t had responses to your texts or phone messages, you can quickly locate your loved one by opening the map. Send individual or group messages alerting members of your circle to traffic accidents to avoid, weather hazards, or more dangerous situations. There are crimes and dangers that occur on college campuses, and this is a great app for students to keep track of friends and notify authorities and each other if something goes wrong. You can also automate Life 360 to inform you of when members of your circle arrive to and depart from specific places. Both private and group messaging are included in this important safety app.

Siren GPS

When you find yourself in an emergency situation on the road, Siren GPS aids first responders in determining your exact location. This excellent app connects people in the community to first responders in a new way. If cell phone service goes down, two-way communication is still available to keep you in touch with rescuers. This app can also be used by credentialed first responders and law enforcement to privately communicate with each other when an emergency occurs. The goal of Siren GPS is to have safer communities.

Weather Live

Weather Live keeps you prepared for weather events of every type. Try this app to obtain accurate information on temperature, rain, storm warnings, wind speed, and sunrise and sunset times. This weather app provides a detailed seven-day forecast and radar and rain maps. Keep ahead of the weather and be aware of dangerous driving conditions with this handy free app.

ICE: In Case of Emergency

Created by a paramedic, ICE is an app designed to provide emergency first responders with all the information they need to know about an injured party. Health information assists responders to know about treatments they can provide, and what allergies the person has. Contact information is also included in the app. In the event a loved one becomes sick or is injured in an accident, you will be notified right away. This is an important app for every family member to have, especially those with preexisting conditions, such as diabetes, seizures, and asthma.

Download these apps to keep your family safer and to be better prepared in the event of a natural, weather-related, or man-instigated disaster.

I did not know about most of these apps. I am impressed by ICE , but I would consider using all of these apps
