New Year’s Eve Family Traditions

New Year's Eve Family Traditions - FireworksDo you have any special New Year’s Eve family traditions? We do! We love celebrating NYE as a family together and today, I’m going to share with all of you our family’s New Year’s Eve traditions!

For starters…we always plan a big seafood family dinner which we prepare and cook at home. We serve steamed shrimp, crab legs and lobster tails…along with other delicious treats. The adults can elect to have yummy cocktails served along with their dinner, while the kids can choose sparkling juice or whatever it is that they like. We also throw 3-4 homemade pizzas onto the grill for those who prefer that over the seafood, which is typically the kids!

We then spend time together after an early dinner playing a family game. We like to play whatever the hottest game is that particular season, but if we can’t all agree on one…then we will pull out a classic.

My daughter and her family typically head home around 10PM and hubby and I head out with our best friends. We like to go down into the city during New Year’s Eve to see the Strawberry Drop and fireworks shot out over the river. Yes, it’s usually freezing cold outside at midnight, so I am typically looking like a huge marshmallow man with all of my layers of clothing on. It’s always nice getting my first kiss of the New Year on midnight while out underneath the stars and with fireworks blazing in the skies. Fun! Sometimes we’ll head straight home and at other time’s we might stop by a bar & grill for a drink, before heading home.

We usually drop into bed around 2 in the morning, but it’s all in great fun and I’m glad that we’re both still healthy enough to get out and enjoy ourselves on New Year’s Eve.

So, do you have any family traditions for New Year’s Eve?

  1. We have celebrated with the same group of friends for the last 30 years. We take turns hosting and making dinner. Everyone brings wine and desserts.

  2. Wow–you really make a night of it! I hope you’re having a great time at this very moment. We don’t do much, and tonight it’s supposed to snow, so we won’t be going anywhere. We’ll probably watch a movie on Netflix or something and just enjoy being together, safe and warm inside.

Y*our family traditions sound very nice. We don’t have any traditions like that. My husband and I will usually wait up to see the ball drop in Times Square. we have a seafood meal on New Year’s Day.

  4. We usually have a big nice dinner on New Years Eve. Every year it is something a little different my wild days are over and I think I fell asleep last year before midnight. This year is going to be a quiet one as it is beyond freezing outside where we live. Sure sounds like you guys have a fun evening planned. Happy New Year to you all and best wishes for 2017.
