Virginia, it’s one of those states that should be on your travel bucket list for a wide variety of reasons. Virginia has beautiful coastal areas, mountain areas, the urban city and of it’s rich in history and culture.
A few months ago we had the opportunity to visit the Jamestown Settlement in Jamestown Virginia. If you’ve never been there before, it’s a living history museum that is open year-round. It’s a great place to visit for the entire family!
While visiting one of Virginia’s most popular tourist attractions, you’ll learn all about the early colonial days and about the first European settlers to colonize this great nation. You learn about the Native Americans (who were here first) and how Jamestown came to be.
Since this is a living history museum, you can walk around at your own pace and take your own self-guided tour. You do have to pay admission to get in, but in my honest opinion, it’s well worth it for the valuable history lesson that you’ll learn.
You’ll get to experience what is was like back in the late 1700’s. It was fabulous to walk around and see all of the re-enactments, visiting the various exhibits, take a few of the tours and all kinds of other things that this very cool place has to offer. My husband really enjoy seeing people dressed up in the colonial costumes and demonstrating what life was back then.
Some of the exhibits are interactive and you can participate in the activities if you want. Others are strictly for observation & learning. This is one of the coolest living history museums that we’ve ever visited!
Once your done visiting the exhibits & museum you can grab a bite to eat at their on-site cafe and/or do a little souvenir shopping in their gift store. For a tourist destination, I thought their prices were very reasonable. Even though this place is open year-round, I do suggest that you avoid going on 90+ degree days or freezing icy days during the winter. However, that’s entirely up to you when you visit.
Anyway, I wanted to share a few photos from our visit with all of you today here on the blog as part of our weekly travel feature. If you ever get the chance to visit the Jamestown Settlement in Virginia, I highly suggest that you go!

I would love to visit this historical settlement and interact with the various exhibits. I love things that are both fun and educational.
I love places like this. I’d like to see Jamestown & I’d like to visit Colonial Williamsburg, too. Being in KY, I’ve been to Old Fort Harrod & Shakertown. (If you’re ever in KY, both are really interesting places.)
What a great educational place to visit! This would be a great field trip for students to learn. If we’re ever in the area, I’ll have to take my grandsons so they can experience this place.
I can remember visiting many historical places like this when I was a kid. Most of them were places on our way out to Colorado from the Midwest, so I’d love to visit the Southern part of the states. My folks still live around Amish country, so I really love and have respect for this type of hard-working, less modernized lifestyle.
This post is fantastic thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures. I would so love to visited here. I have always loved studying history those people were super tough. I love that the buildings that they built so long ago are still standing.
