Let’s get honest! How many of you prefer a handmade gift vs. a store bought gift?
I know a lot of people will tell you to your face that they prefer a handmade gift because they think it’s the politically correct thing to say but if you survey them (anon) they will be honest and tell you that they prefer a store bought gift or a gift card to shop at a store.
For myself personally, it depends on the situation and what kind of handmade gift we are talking about and is it something I would really use or something that would sit around and collect dust. The same goes for a store bought gift! I don’t need any more knickknacks or other nonsense taking up space in my home.
I read some survey results on this topic and an editorial piece on those results and wanted to share it all with you but now I can’t find it. Ugh! With that said, I wanted to hear all of your thoughts on this topic and please…be honest with them!
Do you REALLY prefer handmade gifts over store bought gifts? Thoughts?
If the handmade gift is made by my child or grandchild that is the best. Otherwise it depends upon the gift and It can be either handmade or store bought.
I have been fortunate in the handmade gifts that I have gotten. Last year I got a beautiful quilt from a relative that I will value forever. Always love the handmade cards and goodies from my grandchildren.
Honestly? It depends on the person doing the making, but I always appreciate the time and effort put into the gift. I love food gifts, but as a pretty good cook myself, I also love getting good store-bought ingredients or tools to make my own goodies. In fact, most of the gifts I’ll be giving this Christmas are homemade edibles. Hope the recipients like them! Ha!
I am another of ‘it depends’ category. I LOVE food related handmade gifts. I got the very best sauerkraut one year and another year horseradish and salsa. Loved all of those. I also like cookies and such and love the finger food type like muddy buddy or good Chex mix etc.
I am an oddball, I never return a store bought gift. I will keep it aound if I dont need t but usually can fiind someone who needs it more.
It really does depend on the gift, lol. I love handmade gifts that are food based! Cookies, candies, jams, etc., are great handmade gifts. Things like beautiful quilts or afghans are amazing handmade gifts. Of course, a handmade gift from a child is always precious!—It’s also true that if your significant other knows what you want for Christmas & can easily afford it but just throws together something you don’t need or want…well, come on!!
(Handmade vs. Store Bought Gifts) Hand made is always more personable to give this time of year for the holidays. But either hand made or store bought I always try to pick the right gift for the special someone.
It really depends on who the gift is from depending if I like the homemade vs store bought. I love to get handmade gifts from my grandsons!
I wish you could find it. I would vbe curious about the results. I feel like you. I have gotten some wonderful homemade gifts and some wonderful store bought gifts. Then again I have received some sad sacks from both catagories.. But usually you can return the sore bought ones!
