This past weekend we held a little holiday party here at our home and invited over a few family & friends. It’s always nice to get together during the holiday season with our loved ones and for this party…we sat down to watch the movie Angels Sing together. Here’s some information about the movie which is currently available for purchase on DVD or look for it on the Hallmark Channel. It’s rated PG, so it’s the perfect holiday movie for family movie night or for holiday parties.
Movie Synopsis: As a child, Michael Walker wished every day could be Christmas. That is, until a tragic accident crushed his holiday spirit. Thirty years later, Michael still can’t muster any joy for the holidays, despite encouragement from his playful wife and well-intentioned parents. But when his young son faces a tragedy, Michael needs to make amends with his past. A mysterious man named Nick gives Michael a gift and instills in him the courage to find the joy that he lost.
Cast: Harry Connick Jr., Connie Britton, Chandler Canterbury, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson
Genre: Comedy/Drama/Holiday
To get ready for our little holiday party…I went shopping at my local Target store and picked up some goodies. I purchased a few 2 liter bottles of soft drink, a large jug of apple cider, some hot cocoa and juice for the kids. I also found a lovely pre-made holiday cookie platter and picked up that along with chips, crackers and ingredients to whip up some spinach dip. YUMMY!
Once my guests arrived, they had a little bite to eat and then we all sat down to watch Angels Sing together. I admit, I’m not a huge holiday movie fan, but Angels Sing is one movie I enjoy watching during this time of the year because it has a wonderful story line. Plus, the acting by the actors in this particular movie is fantastic too!
Harry Connick Jr. plays Michael, the dad in the family. When he was a small child, he experienced a tragedy, his brother passed away while ice skating on a pond when they were kids and that tragedy has affected Michael for all of his life. Fast forward 30 years and Michael has a biking accident and things start to change. Michael and his wife (played by Connie Britton) buy a new house that is located on a street that heavily celebrates the holiday. That’s also when they meet Willie Nelson. Well, I’m not going to tell you how all of this plays out, because that would ruin the movie for you and I don’t do spoilers! Let’s just say this…Michael does find the holiday spirit once again and does deal with his past.

We had 7 adult guests and 4 children here for our party and everyone enjoyed the movie. I had seen the movie before, so it was nice to see that my party guests got to see the movie for the first time. I think once you see the movie, it will become a holiday classic and I know I plan on hosting another Angels Sing movie viewing party again next year. It just puts you in the mood for the holiday season!
