The Butterfly House at Hershey Gardens

November 16, 2016 by Shelly

Hershey Gardens Butterfly HouseAs most of you know, I live in south central Pennsylvania and only a 15 minute drive from Hershey chocolate town. Hershey is a popular tourist destination here in the northeast and during the late spring, summer and early fall seasons, the city will attract millions of visitors.

Hershey is home to all things Hershey chocolate! You’ll find the Hershey Chocolate Factory, Hershey Chocolate World, The Hershey Story Museum, the Hershey Gardens, Hersheypark Amusement Park and more! Seriously, this is one of the sweetest places on earth!

Hershey Gardens Butterfly House

A few months ago we took the grandchildren to Hershey Gardens and to the Butterfly House which is part of the Children’s Garden located on the property. If you love visiting and touring botanical gardens, you’ll absolutely LOVE visiting this place!

We spent a good 2 hours walking through the flower gardens and then we went into the Children’s Garden and visited some butterflies in the Butterfly House. What’s really cool is that you can get up close to the butterflies (you can’t touch them) but you can get close enough to grab some decent photos of them! Super cool if you ask me!

My granddaughter would stand there staring at the butterflies in amazement watching them fly around, land on various foliage or flowers and a few of them she caught drinking some water. They had some sliced up watermelon sitting out and a crowd of them went after that.

You’ll see a ton of different species in a wide range of colors and sizes. I was really impressed with the large variety of butterflies that we were able to see while visiting the Butterfly House at Hershey Gardens. It was the perfect afternoon to spend with the kids and the family.

I have never been to Hershey Gardens or the Butterfly House. I am a real garden fanatic so I have to put it on my list for next spring/summer or fall. I guess its gettting too cold now.

I think it was in St Louis or maybe Minneapolis we went into a butterfly house. It is amazing to see all the different colors nd sizes of those little flutter bys. I could imagine they went wild over the watermelon! You took some really nice pictures and I bet you had a great time.

Beautiful photos! I just love butterflies. Years ago, my mother wintered in Florida and my sister and I went down to visit her. The highlight of the trip was an afternoon spent at a butterfly garden. Mom was in a wheelchair, and perhaps it was her lack of motion, but the butterflies seemed drawn to her, with many of them landing on her. She was so happy. Thank you for reminding me of that day and my mother’s sweet smile.

We have a butterfly house at the science center near us and it is absolutely fascinating to spend time there. My granddaughter loves them too and has learned so much from our visits.

We have the Butterfly Pavillion here in Denver. It’s wonderful to visit. I got to hold a tarantula.

Gorgeous! I knew about Hershey, PA, obviously, but I had no idea they had Gardens like this! It would be a really nice vacation spot.
