Tasty and Healthy INVO Coconut Water

INVO Coconut WaterCoconut water is one of those things I’ve heard of and seen in stores but never bought or tried. I don’t know why—I just never really considered it. But now that I’ve had the chance to try INVO Coconut Water for myself, I understand why coconut water is so popular. It tastes great, and it’s a good source of minerals, vitamins, and electrolytes, which promote rapid hydration.

Before I embarked on my coconut water journey, I did some research to find out just what the coconut water craze is all about. First of all, coconut water is far different from coconut milk or oil; it’s simply the clear liquid in the center of young green coconuts. It’s often touted as a refreshing alternative to sports drinks, since it has fewer calories and less sugar and sodium but more potassium. It provides carbohydrates in the form of sugars and electrolytes, and it’s naturally free of fats and cholesterol. However, if you have a nut allergy or if you’re considering coconut water to aid in recovery after strenuous exercise or for any of its purported health benefits, you should first consult your health professional.

Me, I just like the way it tastes. The “Pure” variety of INVO I tried is 100% coconut water. It has a light, slightly nutty flavor, sweet and coconutty but not overly so. It’s a bit thicker than water without being syrupy. And if it helps me stay hydrated and supplements my vitamin, mineral, and electrolyte intake, well, that’s a bonus, especially during this cold and flu season.

INVO Coconut water is bottled and processed in Thailand using native coconuts. Their processing method, called “high pressure processing” (HPP), is a cold pasteurization technique that inactivates any bacteria, viruses, yeast, and molds present in the natural coconut water. Because no heat is involved, the coconut water retains its original flavor and nutritional content.

Aside from the Pure flavor I tried, INVO Coconut Water is also available in two other flavors, Tropical (a blend of coconut water, mango puree, and pineapple and passion fruit juices) and Sencha Green Tea (coconut water with sencha green tea). The store finder on their website can help you find a retail location near you that sells INVO products, or you might find it at your local Whole Foods or Wegmans, which carries a handy eight-pack.
