From the makers of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom, this beautifully animated adventure tells the tale of Stick Man and his epic adventure across the seasons. While out for a jog, Stick Man is carried away from his family tree by a mischievous dog eager to play fetch! As he tries to make his way back to his “Stick Lady Love and their stick children three,” things only get worse as he finds himself farther and farther from home. Alone and weary, Stick Man longs to be reunited with his family for Christmas. Will a chance encounter with Santa Claus be his ticket home?
This film is based on the beloved children’s book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, Hugh Bonneville, Rob Brydon, Mark Freeman, Sally Hawkins, Jennifer Saunders, and Russell Tovey bring Donaldson’s alluring and bouncy rhymes to life in this heartwarming family treasure. In addition to featuring this charming tale, the DVD includes a behind the scenes documentary about the transformation of the delightful book into a captivating film.
First and foremost, if you’ve never heard of Stick Man, than I highly recommend you head to your local library and check it out. This is a fantastic story, which makes it perfect for a short 30-minute film. The illustrations are amazing and the story is incredibly heartwarming (it gave me the feels). This film is the perfect opportunity to start a new Christmas movie tradition and is great for all ages.
You can really empathize with Stick Man, his stick Lady Love and their stick children three throughout the entire film. It illustrates many different types of emotions, which is a great conversation starter and gives you the opportunity to introduce new emotions to your little ones. You really feel every emotion: Happiness, Worry, Sadness, Worry, Relief, and Excitement…they’re all there. I think that’s what I like most about this movie.
