Food, Friends and a TV Set: Binge Watching Parties Done Right

Binge Watching Parties Done RightThe misconception about binge watching is that it’s done in solitaire. Why watch alone when so many love to binge? Gather friends, food, and drinks for an official night of watching and partying. However, there’s a right and wrong way to throw a binge watching soiree. Here’s how it’s done to perfection.

Start with a Survey

You want people to get excited. However, a binge watching party is unlike a traditional party where people mingle. At this party, people will be watching programs, so you need to be sure all attendants are fans of your choices. There is a democratic way to do this. Create a survey and allow goers to vote for beloved programs.

Get a Sitter

If you’re hosting the party, consider hiring a sitter, even if you don’t have kids. That way, you can invite friends and family members with children and they won’t have to worry about getting a sitter. Parents will be close so the sitter will be able to handle multiple children without feeling overwhelmed. Of course, children can attendant if old enough for the program content and won’t distract from the viewing enjoyment of others.

Make it a Costume Party

Why not add a wrinkle of fun? Once the gang has used the survey to vote upon what will be viewed, request that friends and family come dressed as members of the cast. It’s always good to add incentive; offer a prize to those with the best costumes and creativity.

Decorate the Place

If you’re going to request guests come dressed, your abode must follow suit. Do away with your normal interior design, switching it out for colors, implements, and knickknacks that make it look more like the set of the show. However, don’t obstruct the sound path of the wireless speakers or the view of the television from any vantage.

Serve Virgin Drinks

Maybe it’s a bummer to those who like to mix liquor with their partying but the virgin drinks are more practical for a couple reasons. You won’t have to worry about guests driving home intoxicated. Secondly, you can save money on supplies, especially if you’ll be responsible for the food.

Order Takeout or Catering

It costs a bit extra yet having others prepare the food means you don’t have to worry about a thing other than opening your wallet. That’s not a bad price to pay for assurance in knowing attendants will be well fed and you’ll be free of stress.

Schedule Breaks

People get inattentive and restless when seated for periods of time. Emulate theater houses by scheduling intermissions throughout the night. That way, people will be able to get up and stretch, mingle, use the lavatory, get more food and refreshments, etc. Forty-five minutes to one hour is a good block of time.

Get Feedback

If you’re serious about future binge nights, and want to improve upon prior events, you’ll need the feedback of attendants. Allow people to anonymously fill-out online surveys. Don’t take negative feedback too personal and use reviews to become a truly exceptional binge host.

I have never been to a binge party and these are all good tips on how to throw such an event. I would send out surveys in advance to get an idea of what type of event or movie would be the est choice.

  2. All great ideas to make a party fun. I like the idea of costumes and decorating. Gives it that extra festive feel. We sometimes have everyone bring an appetizer or have just ordered pizza. Either way it works out well.

  3. This sounds like a total blast and I just love the idea of costumes. I have never been to one of these binge watching parties but now I want to throw one. Thanks for all of the wonderful ideas.
