How many of you are aware of the newest craze going around in various neighborhoods across America called “Boo It Forward?” Some people call it Boo’ing, Ghosting or Boo-gramming? I heard of this last fall, but didn’t get involved in it. However, I’ve gotten more info about it this year and I’m participating in Boo It Forward.
Here’s some basic information about it:
The tradition of “Booing your Neighbor” has been around for several years now and it has really grown in popularity as a fun, safe, family-oriented activity. It’s also known as “Ghosting” or “Boo-gramming.” It has been a hit with mommy bloggers and their families. They would put together a home decorated bag of treats including a note with instructions on how to “boo” and a poem and deliver it anonymously to their neighbor, friend or relative. The recipient would then have 48 hours to do it to their next door neighbor or friend which creates a chain throughout the neighborhood.
We were sent a Boo-It-Forward gift set that contained the new Ghostbusters DVD and candies inside an orange plastic pumpkin. I decided to add 2 bags of microwave popcorn, a bag of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (homemade) and 2 bottles of water to it…to make it even more fun for my recipient. A movie night in a Halloween Pumpkin Bucket!
I chose to Boo-It-Forward to one of my neighbors who lives 3 houses down from us. Her husband recently had major back surgery and is home-bound for a few weeks while he recovers. I thought this fun treat would bring a smile to their face and give them something to do while being cooped up indoors.
After I had my Halloween gift set prepared, I snuck down to their house and placed it by their front door two nights ago (after it got dark), rang the door bell and ran my butt back up to my house. Of course, I had to stop along the way and hide behind a bush, so that they didn’t see me. Fun! Next time I won’t be wearing my clogs for running! Ha!
The next evening my neighbor walks up to our house when she saw us outside telling us about “neighborhood kids” who are ringing doorbells and running, to be on the lookout for them. I said “why?” She said that someone in the neighborhood played a trick on them & left them a movie night gift basket on their porch along with other goodies. I totally played dumb and acted like I knew nothing about it. I don’t think I’ll ever tell her that I was that neighborhood kid! LOL
For those of you who want to make up a Ghostbusters theme’d Boo Basket, you can pick up the new Ghostbusters Blu-Ray DVD which was just released on October 11th, 2016. If you’re looking for some great deals on Halloween candies…you can find those at your local Walmart store or at Walmart online.
This was a lot of fun and next year…I’m really going to get involved and make up several Boo-It-Forward gift sets to surprise my neighbors. I guess I’ll have to make one for myself too, so that they don’t guess that I’m behind all of this Tom-Foolery going on in the neighborhood!
How many of you have heard of Boo-It-Forward before? How many of you have been Boo’d or have participated in it?
Disclosure: Shelly was provided with some complimentary free items to participate in Boo-It-Forward. No monetary compensation was received. In addition, Shelly added some of her own items to the gift basket for this promotion.
I’ve never heard of this before. I think it’s a fun idea.
This is the first time I have heard of this tradition. I love the idea of anonymously giving some sort of treat to a neighbor or friend. I don’t understand why your neighbor thought someone was playing a trick on them when they were being given a treat.
I am not familiar with this tradition.
