When people are refurnishing their homes, they’re generally more excited about getting the new furniture and flooring in than they are the lighting fixtures. The reason for this is probably because we’ve never really been taught how to appreciate a solidly-designed lighting fixture. Lighting is a necessity, not a luxury, so as long as we’re getting the amount of light we want, who cares about the material of the lamp’s base or the color of the shade?
The Artistry of the Wall Sconce
We should care about the lighting fixtures in our home. If your dining room comes complete with a Herman Miller Nelson Thin Edge Buffet and Delft blue votive candle holders, you’re not going to want some cheap plastic floor lamp sitting in the corner.
The reason you’ve designed your space to feature such aesthetically beautiful things is so that they get noticed. Why else would you care about having an original Eames chair sitting in your office? You have decorated your home with these stunning furniture pieces because you desire your home to be an escape from the tedious, dreary and mundane. A hideous light fixture will ruin any hope you had for such a grandiose space, but the right wall sconce can change all that.
Bonnet LED Wall Sconce—FontanaArte
Well-designed wall sconces aren’t the easiest pieces to find. It seems that all too often they emit a weak, amber-colored light from an outdated and comely eyesore. Having not been able to find the perfect wall sconce, we’re left trying to hide our light sources away. This is no longer the case with FontanaArte’s Bonnet LED Wall Sconce.
The Bonnet LED Wall Sconce combines purity of form in a minimalist aesthetic to bring to our interiors a simple and refined piece of functional art. The curvature of the polished aluminum sconce produces a remarkable lighting effect against the wall and the fixture itself. The soft, ethereal-looking light will lighten your space and lend it an airier quality. Instead of feeling weighed down in your home, the Bonnet LED Wall sconce will make you feel weightless and joyful.
Bruno Scissor Arm Pharmacy Sconce—Robert Abbey
It’s also important to have a bit of fun with our décor. If we keep everything too tightly micromanaged, we’ll lose the comfort of home. Robert Abbey’s Bruno Scissor Arm Pharmacy Sconce is a delightfully versatile wall sconce that best performs as a task light. Wall sconces are about more than just looking pretty!
This wall sconce/task light would work well in the bedroom, substituting for the traditional table lamp. With a pivoting, extending arm and accessible ON/OFF switch, you’ll look forward to getting into bed at night to read the latest book club selection.
Tolomeo Mega Wall Light—Artemide
Artemide’s Tolomeo Mega Wall Light through its superb design offers its users a choice between smooth, subtle light or an unswerving, powerful downlight. The aluminum base and broad lampshade joins together the traditionalism of the table lamp with the industriousness of the wall sconce, creating an original and elegant wall light suitable for the dining room or living room.
Meurice 5-Arm Wall Sconce—Robert Abbey
Another one by Robert Abbey, the Meurice 5-Arm Wall Sconce combines Old-Hollywood glamor with the sleekness of Mid-Century Modern. The bamboo-inspired shafts topped with the spherical light bulbs is simple and ornate all at once—who would have thought a design could achieve such a distinction.
Available in a variety of finishes, the Meurice 5-Arm Wall Sconce works as both a light source and sculptural talking point in your home.
A good wall sconce isn’t so hard to find; you just need to know where to look.
I dont have wall scones although I do like them. Our home is an older one so I think they would work well. I didnt know they had LED know. Usually wall scones are so dim, but the ones you mentioned sound nice. I will have to look into them, we were thinking of redoing the dining room area soon.
I don’t have any wall sconces, but now that I know that they improved the lighting quality I shall examine them more thoroughly. I like a lot of light in my rooms.
I love wall sconces and chose a few for my house in Colorado. My eyes can be light sensitive and they are perfect for that and very easy to maintain. Plus as you featured, the choices are endless. Very little to dust as well, so bonus!
