Tjula Creates Chic, Socially Conscious Clothing for the Modern Woman
My workplace is a business casual environment, which is fantastic. Most office fashion has become more flexible over the years and women can be more expressive and embrace their own personal style. I wear denim a few days a week, but when I have meetings with executives, I prefer to polish my look a bit more. I will usually do black pants, cute heels and a simple, yet stylish top. I was recently introduced to TJULA Design, which is an ethically made apparel company with a purpose to empower women.
The company produces high quality, modern and functional clothing that is reasonably priced. What’s really special about TJULA is that it trains and employs Cambodian women to help them build their confidence, lift them out of poverty and ultimately advance their families. They create fair work for these women by working with organizations that help to train them to create TJULA’s quality products. The women are paid fair wages in ethical work environments.
The top that I received was the company’s Slitback Tank. This is a lightweight top with a split back to give it a little fashionable flair. I love the way that this top fits (it doesn’t hug around the middle) and it looks perfect with a pair of black pants. My favorite thing about this top is that it has a double layer, so it isn’t transparent. I have so many tops that I have to layer a camisole or tank underneath, as they are either see-through or too low cut. This top is perfect the way it is, or you can add a jacket or cardigan over it (especially if you work in an office that is freezing like the one I work in). It is ideal for the office with its beautiful detail and simple lines. You can tell that this is a high-quality, well-crafted garment.
Right now, TJULA offers three unique and key pieces to add to your wardrobe—the Slitback Tank, Tulip Skirt and the Everyday Pants. This company is about making quality products with mindful sourcing and production and their journey has just begun. It’s not about large quantity, mass produced, trendy pieces that go out of style in a few months.
The TJULA Slitback Tank is available on the website for $42.99. A portion of profits from this piece (as well as the other pieces) will be given back to the community where the product is made through non-profit programs that further local community development. Overall, I love the clothes and I love the company. They are driven by a larger purpose, which is totally refreshing.
