Rainbow Out Over the Atlantic Ocean
Back in June we spent a wonderful 2 weeks down at the Jersey Shore, North Wildwood to be exact. We are very fortunate that we have the opportunity to visit the beach several times every year.
Late one afternoon back in June a nasty thunderstorm came through. This storm had some serious thunder, lightning and hail along with it. I bet in one hour we had gotten about 2″ of rain and some of the coastal streets had started to flood.
After the storm was over, we headed up onto the North Wildwood Seawall to take a look at the aftermath of the storm. Within minutes, this gorgeous rainbow appeared out over the Atlantic Ocean and that rainbow lasted for at least 20 minutes in duration! I’ve never seen one that lasted that long!
This all occurred about 1 hour before sunset and it was pretty dusky outside, so that was the best photo that I could get. What was really cool was how calm the ocean water was after that storm had blown through. Earlier that day we had some high waves & riptides going through the area and after the storm…baby waves as you can see in my photo.
I love looking at rainbows and I’ve probably have photographed at least 15 or so in the past 20 years. I try to document them with a photo, time, date and location whenever I can.
Do any of you enjoy looking at rainbows? Are you a rainbow hunter? How many times have you seen one in your lifetime?
