7 Tips for Getting Your Home Clean for the Holidays

It’s now September 19th and many of us are already starting to think about the holidays. After all of the hustle & bustle from summer, my house needed a good thorough cleaning, so that I’m ready for the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays. When I say “thorough”, I really mean it! I’m going from room to room, top to bottom, and getting things cleaned up! Luckily, it is so easy to get hold of cleaning products as you can Buy Janitorial Supplies Online or in most stores!

7 Tips for Getting Your Home Clean

Here are 7 Tips for Getting Your Home Clean for the Holidays.

1. Make a room-by-room list of things you want to clean and organize. Prioritize every task on your list and estimate how much time you think you’ll need to get it accomplished.

2. Get out a calendar and block off time for each room and project you want to complete. As your blocking off the days & time…schedule in a few extra hours here & there to work on any additional tasks or to finish up previous ones that need to be completed. Don’t try to complete everything in one or two weeks!

3. Enlist the help of other members who live in your household! Little kids can help clean out their toy boxes, clean out things from underneath their beds, dust, sweep, fold clothing and all sorts of other “tasks” and they like to feel like they’re part of the team!

Fall Cleaning Checklist

4. As the seasons change, I make a honey-to-do-list and get my husband involved in repairing things around the house, changing out light bulbs, updating smoke detectors, installing new items and yes, helping with various cleaning projects.

5. Downsize, downsize and downsize! I can’t say that enough! The less stuff that you have sitting around, the less stuff you have to clean! If you haven’t used something or worn something in quite awhile…donate it or get rid of it!

Fall Cleaning - Trunk Organizer

6. Invest in the proper cleaning tools and products. You don’t need an “army” of tools & products, so trim it down and only purchase the ones that multi-task or get the job done quickly. Buy yourself a portable tote basket or wheelable cart, so that you can load it up with cleaning products and take it room to room with you. It saves on time and cuts down on the stress.

Fall Cleaning with Febreze

7. Once a room has been clean & organized, don’t forget to “refresh” it! You’ll want to use a good deodorizer, like Febreze and freshen up your throw rugs, furniture, curtains and other things that you typically don’t launder on a daily or weekly basis. When you walk into a room you want to smell a FRESH scent. Febreze removes all kinds of stinky odors from fabrications!

Extra Bonus Tips:

1. When it comes to cleaning my floors I love the Swiffer WetJet. Why you might ask? Well, I have several different types of flooring here in my home. I have ceramic tile, linoleum, slate-rock and hardwood flooring. I like that I can buy the various Swiffer brand floor cleaning products to accommodate all of my different floor types, but yet…I only need the Swiffer WetJet to dispense it. I also love how it gets right up to the edge of my baseboards and it leaves no sticky residue on my floors! I use BOTH the Swiffer WetJet Multisurface Solution and the WetJet Wood Solution.

Fall Cleaning - Swiffer Wet Jet

2. Invest in good dusting products! I use the Swiffer duster for all of my dry dusting needs. I use it to dust my mini blinds, ceiling fans, bookcases, shelving units, etc. Buy yourself some great microfiber cleaning cloths and use those for dry and/or wet dusting. When I need to do wet dusting, I grab microfiber cloths…use them and then toss them into the laundry for cleaning and reuse.

3. Once you’re done with all of your projects…reward yourself & your family! Throw a little pizza party or sit down together to watch your family movie. After all, you all deserve it!

Are you ready to get started with your Fall & Holiday cleaning? Of course you are!

Let’s see, 2 cats and 2 dogs, can I say STANK on your blog? Bless their hearts I bathe them, litter boxes are tidied every day, but sometimes they just stink. We have a total of 8 animal beds (so they sleep on the sofa of course).

My #1 challenge is trying to keep the walls nice and clean. We burn wood in the winter and it just yellows everything. I try to paint, to give it a fresh clean look but it’s hard to keep up with. I love the wood heat but it creates a lot of dust too.
