When you’re on the verge of getting a cold, does your body send you a signal? For me, that signal is a sore throat. But now I’ll be ready to ease that scratchy, burning feeling with GoGargle! effervescent salt gargle tablets.
GoGargle! was created by January O’Conner when she put her RN training to use to create a soothing gargle to relieve her husband’s dry, irritated throat. January rounded out her recipe with chamomile, aloe vera, honey, and mint. After much testing, the final product also includes ingredients such as zinc, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. The sodium reduces inflammation, while the chamomile, aloe, and honey soothe the irritation and moisturize the throat.
Gargling with warm salt water has long been a home remedy for sore throats, and now there’s scientific research proving that generations of mothers had the right idea. The product website has links to several articles and studies, if you’re interested in reading more about how it works.
GoGargle! is gluten-free and is made in the U.S.A. It’s safe for children who are old enough to gargle without swallowing; the package indicates that it’s “not intended for children under 3 years old.” Fortunately, even if it’s accidentally swallowed, it’s not harmful.
Look for GoGargle! in national drugstore and supermarket chains, including Walgreen’s, CVS, Kmart, Price Chopper, and Wegman’s; a complete list is on their website. It’s also available online at sites such as Amazon and Drugstore. It comes in a pack of ten tablets in a plastic tube, making it convenient to carry in a purse, backpack, or suitcase.

My Thoughts: When I received my samples to review, I actually found myself hoping to get a cold so I could give it a good test. For better or for worse (well, probably for better!), I never did get that cold, but I did gargle with GoGargle! for several days in a row. I had read on their website that some experts recommend a daily salt gargle to promote good health, and while I can’t vouch for its proactive health benefits, I found GoGargle! quite refreshing, certainly nicer and easier to use than plain salt and warm water.
I’ve often used a salt rinse after dental procedures or when I’ve had a mouth sore, and I’ll be keeping GoGargle! on hand for those purposes as well as to help with my pre-cold sore throats. It’s simple to use, the tablets dissolve in a few minutes in warm water, and it tastes pleasant.
