When Carl Black comes into some unexpected money, he decided to give up his hustling lifestyle, take his family and leave Chicago behind, but…they realize they picked the worst time to move. In a spoof of the hit franchise The Purge, Carl Black moves his family to Beverly Hills in hope of a better life, but their arrive coincides with the city’s annual purge, where all crime is legal for twelve hours.

Sara’s Thoughts:

Rules of the Purge: 1) You have 12 hours to do any crimes you wish, 2) Lock your doors, 3) Don’t trust anyone, 4) Pay your bills and chain up your pets, and 5) this is ONE night only. I first want to advise that this movie is extremely vulgar. There is a great deal of swearing, so if you have sensitive ears, this movie is not for you. This movie is also filled with a lot of racist jokes, so if you offend easily, this movie is not for. However, if you don’t mind oodles of profanity and racist jokes, and you enjoy movie spoofs, then this is a good recommendation for you. Its concept is similar to the “Scary Movie” spoof franchise…take a suspenseful movie and turn it into a comedy, only it focuses on one theme rather than many.

Mike Epps is enjoyable in this movie with his quick quips and one-liners. My favorite thing about Meet the Blacks was the fact that those who came to “purge” the Black family, were all people who Carl Black wronged in the past: repo man, credit debt collectors, even a clown from his kid’s birthday party. While the masks used are a bit creepy, the accidental and misdirected deaths throughout the movie will have you laughing out loud. Overall, this movie is utterly ridiculous (which was intended) and worth giving a try.
