Learn to Make Ice Cream the Old-Fashioned Way

August 17, 2016 by Shelly

The Ice Cream Bible - CookbookI admit, my family loves ice cream! We have at least two containers of ice cream in our freezer at all times. Personally, I love chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls. My husband isn’t picky about ice cream and will eat anything I put in front of him. My granddaughter is picky and prefers the typical kiddie flavors of cotton candy, mint chocolate chip, strawberry, etc. What kind of ice cream do you like?

If you’re looking to try your hand at making homemade ice cream, you’ll want to pick up the book that we’re featuring today. Here’s some information about it.

Title: The Ice Cream Bible
Authors: Marilyn Linton & Tanya Linton
Publisher: Robert Rose Inc.
ISBN: 978-0-7788-0179-5

Synopsis: Capturing the essence of summer with homemade ice creams. sorbets, gelatos & ices. Using the easy & delicious recipes in The Ice Cream Bible and an ice cream maker, home chefs will have everything needed to make a range of luscious frozen desserts to satisfy everyone all year round.

Coffee Brownie Almond Ice Cream

Examples of Recipes Included:

Ice Creams – raspberry white chocolate, pine nut & honey, hazelnut, cookies & creme, mango creme brule, lemon dill.

Ices, Sorbets & Granitas – pomegranate ice, spicy plum sherbet, pear ice, almond snow granita, frozen lemon meringue pie, chili honey lime sorbet, berry banana ice, black pepper & berry ice, ice wine and mandarin orange ice.

Gelatos – honey-walnut gelato, grapefruit lime gelato, super-fast milk gelato, pear-gingerricotta gelato, pear & buttered pecan gelato, toasted pine nut gelato and milky gelato.

The authors of this extensive ice cream making book also provide expert guidance on purchasing a suitable ice cream maker, dozens of fabulous recipes for sauces, and tips & techniques for making the perfect ice cream every time.

My Thoughts: As I previously stated, we love ice cream, especially a homemade one! I have owned many ice cream makers over the past 20 years and current I have one that I got last year that is getting a real workout thanks to the recipes in this book. If you’re looking for the best chocolate ice cream recipe (EVER) you’ll find that on page 22 in the book. Oh my gosh, so easy to make and it tastes out of this world delicious!!!

So far, my husband’s favorite is the Butter Pecan Ice Cream that is featured on page 114 in the book. Every time we go to an ice cream shoppe, he always orders Butter Pecan and after we made this homemade version, well…it’s his new favorite!

Homemade Ice Cream Desserts

We’ve made several recipes from this book so far and have enjoyed them all. If you’re looking for something fun, try serving your frozen treats in fun bowls, mugs, cones, on top of waffles, etc. Live a little bit people!

On page 257 you’ll find a recipe for homemade Banana Caramel Sauce and that’s up on my list to try next. Yup, I’ve got the ingredients on my grocery store list and I can’t wait to try it!

If you’re looking to try your hand at making homemade ice cream, gelatos, ice pops, sundae & ice cream sauces, etc. The Ice Cream Bible is for you! I love this book!

100 best grilling recipes would be good. We just started grilling outside this year and it is fun. I like this Ice Cream book because I now have an Ice Cream maker and love experimenting with it. So far my favorite I made is the peanut butter and coconut flavor, yes combined together it’s awesome. .
