FamilyFun Magazine No-Sew Capes for Kids

Kid's Crafts: Cape Making SuppliesA few weeks ago I was asked if the Two Classy Chics blog would like to participate in a charitable campaign called Capes for Kids, sponsored in part by FamilyFun Magazine. This campaign is all about people getting together and throwing cape making parties and then donating those capes to charity.

Thousands of children end up in homeless shelters every year and I’m sure it’s a very depressing experience for them. To help cheer them up and to give them hope, capes are being made all around the country and being donated to the shelters for the kids! Let’s face it, the kids need some hope and motivation that things will get better. They all need the opportunity to have some fun and we can put some smiles on their faces with the Capes for Kids Campaign.

The directions on how to make the No-Sew Superhero Capes for Kids can be found right on the Parents.com website. You can print out the directions and learn how to make them for your own kids and please make extra to donate to charities locally or to the address provided.

Capes for Kids - Flowers

We committed to make 5 no-sew capes for the kids and decided to make three capes in a boy’s design and two capes in a girl’s design. My 7 1/2 year old granddaughter, 9 1/2 year old godson, my mother and I all sat down together on a Saturday and whipped up five adorable capes!

Capes for Kids - Heart

We used some of the patterns and supplies that were sent to us for this special project and at times I added in some of my own craft supplies to come up with some unique designs ourselves. The capes are made out of large sheets of felt and then decorated with felt pieces, pom-poms, rick-rack trim, ribbons, etc. You can get all fancy with them or make them basic & simple like we did. Each one features a simple velcro closure at the neckline. You can whip one up in less than an hour!

Cape For Kids - Stars

You can see all five of the kid’s capes that we made pictured here in this blog post. We all had a great time making them and the kids learned how important it is to help other children who are in-need. I think it’s great to instill these values in children at a very young age.

Thank you FamilyFun Magazine for inviting us to participate in this very important campaign. Our blog was honored to be included. Please visit the websites listed in this blog feature to learn more.
