During the hot summertime months, millions of people head off for a family vacation. The majority of the time they head to a warm, sunny or hot destination. Sometimes they fly and most of the time they enjoy a road trip. No matter how you choose to travel, it’s important to pack the appropriate snacks & beverages for your trip.
During the summer months, you have to consider the heat, so avoid items that will melt or need refrigeration. Here are the best snacks that we like to pack when we travel.
* Welch’s Fruit Snacks – We never leave home without a box of Welch’s Fruit Snacks. They come in wonderful snack-sized packs, they’re fat-free and made with real fruit juice. The entire family loves them!
* Sunflower Seeds – We love them but if you’re taking a road trip, you’ll want to purchase them in bags with the shells already removed. This way it will be a no-mess snack for you and the family to enjoy.
* Snack Packs of Olives – These handy packages don’t need any refrigeration until after you’ve opened them. However, since they are small-sized packages, they’ll most likely be gone after opening them. 100% natural with no preservatives or additives.
* Organic Banana Chips – We are all trying to eat healthier these days and you can get your “crunchy chip fix” by snacking on healthy banana chips. You can find plain ones and now you can find some that have been naturally flavored with other fruits. YUMMY!
* Organic Licorice – Sometimes you’re craving something a little bit sweeter. We like to buy packages of bite-sized licorice and take them with us when we are traveling. You can find them in a slew of different fruity flavors!
* Viki’s Granola – We love snacking on flavored granola’s, especially the one’s from Viki’s Granola. It’s gluten-free and made with 100% natural ingredients. Available in Original, Blueberry Almond, Maple Cranberry, Banana Walnut & Apple Cinnamon.
* Nuts – If you and the family are looking for a great protein snack, consider buying packages of your favorite nuts! We love snacking on a package of mixed nuts or lightly salted cashews.
* Trail Mix – When purchasing trail mixes, you need to avoid any of the varieties that include bits of “meltable” chocolate candies in them. We buy our trail mix in big bulk-size bags and then pack it into smaller snack-size bags for traveling. Each member in the family, can have their very own bag!

* Protein Bars or Granola Bars – My husband enjoys protein bars while the rest of us enjoy granola bars. I always back several varieties of flavors in our carry-on bag when we’re traveling. They’re a great filling snack to hold you over until your next meal.
* Fresh Fruit & Dried Fruit – We all need more fruit in our daily diet, so I’ll pack fresh oranges and apples when we travel. Their skins are more tougher and I find that they travel a lot better than peaches, nectarines, etc. Once you get to your destination, you can buy additional fresh fruits. We pack a few bags of freeze-dried fruits to snack on too.
After all of this snacking, you’re bound to get a little thirsty. Make sure you pack plenty of bottles of water, juice or whatever it is that your family enjoys drinking.

I like all your choices here, but sometimes I make my own trail mix in advance. I have not yet tried the olive snacks, but these seem like a good idea , especially in the bad hot weather.
For me, half the fun of taking a road trip is the road food. My choices, however, are not always as wholesome and healthful as yours. I’m totally with you on the granola bars, though, and I learned the hard way that it’s best to avoid things with chocolate.
You have some good and different choices like banana chips and the granola. I like that you list healthier things that will give you energy and last. We always make sure to pack good eat on the road items that won’t melt. If taking a package of crackers, we bring a ziploc bag in case there are some uneaten ones and a clip for the pretzel bag. Plus, we make sure to bring napkins, wet wipes, and a plastic grocery bag for trash. It’s amazing how hungry you get on road trips and how much you have to pack.
