Penn’s Cave and Wildlife Park
We love being outdoors, so it’s only natural that we would love visiting Penn’s Cave and Wildlife Park in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania. If you’ve never visited Centre Hall, it sits about 15 minutes outside of State College in the northern part of Pennsylvania.
Penn’s Cave is only accessible by boat and the only tours available are guided tours by the staff. You’ll pay an admission fee at the gift shop and then head down the path and numerous stairs to get to the front entrance of the cave. You’ll get into a small engine flat-bottom boat and your tour will begin.
The guide will tell you the history of the cave and give you all kinds of information about what you see inside it. You’ll come out the other side of the cave and the boat will turn around in the lake and head back inside for the second part of your tour. I believe our boat held 15 people the day we visited and our entire boat tour of the cave lasted about 40 minutes in length.
Once your done…you’ll head back up all of the stairs again (at least 60 of them) and up the path to the gift shop. You can shop for souvenirs or grab a bite to eat from their cafe. Their gift shop has some expensive items, but I did find some reasonably priced ones too. This is also where you’ll find the public restrooms for your use.
On the property is a guided wildlife tour too. You’ll have to pay admission to take this tour. The tour is done by a company vehicle and your guided through the wildlife area. You’ll see all kinds of different animals along the way.
Well, there you have it! My “almost” Wordless Wednesday #Travel post for this week. Do you enjoy visiting underground caverns and caves?
