I love my dogs and treat them like family. I’m always keeping my eyes open for great new dog products and I was recently introduced to a company called Molly Mutt that creates durable, adorable “up-cycled” dog beds for your furry friend.
I love having dog beds throughout the house for my two pooches, Winston and Colby. While they are allowed on our bed and furniture, I like for them to have their own spaces as well so that when they need a quick snooze or rest, they can plop down in their own cozy spot. When I was offered the chance to review one of these great beds, I was excited, as I wanted to get Winston his very own bed since he’s the newest member of our family. As it turns out, both dogs enjoy this comfy spot, so they take turns like the good little boys that they are (sometimes).
Molly Mutt was the brainchild of a woman who owned three muddy mutts and a couple of dirty dog beds. She lived in a small San Francisco apartment on top of one of the city’s many hills. Each time the dog beds would get dirty (which was all the time), she had to haul them to the laundromat. Most times, the dog beds didn’t stand up to the washing and drying and she thought that there must be a better solution. She created Molly Mutt dog bed duvets.
Molly Mutt beds are such a cool concept. Instead of relying on alternative fillings, Molly Mutt dog duvets come without stuffing, allowing pet owners to use their old clothing, bedding, pet toys, and other textiles that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. Your dog loves it because it smells like home/you and you are able to re-use all of these items in your own home. At first, I wasn’t sure I had enough items to stuff the bed (it’s actually a mesh insert called a “stuff sack” that you fill), but boy—was I wrong. Once I started going through my things, I had old blankets, towels and even an old throw pillow that worked perfectly as stuffing for the bed.
The bed is really durable and the outside duvet cover is easily washable. I love it for many reasons, but I really love the eco-friendliness of the bed. Being green and making my dogs happy is a win-win combination! The market is demanding greener pet products and this company definitely delivers. What I also love about these Molly Mutt beds are the designs. The patterns are so unique and adorable and anyone can find a print to fit perfectly into the home décor. I chose the Bleeker Street design with coral colored steaks & ham bones, green trees, puffy white clouds, and an amazing tan dog house — how adorable is that?! I also received one of the add-on bolsters in a neutral color to stuff and wrap around the bed. It’s a great addition to make this bed extra comfortable for your best pal.
The dog beds are sold in four sizes—petite (under 15 pounds), small (15-30 pounds), medium/large (30-70 pounds) and huge (over 70 pounds). As I mentioned above, you can also purchase an add-on bolster for the bed. The beds vary in price depending on the size with the range starting at $19 and going up to $49.95. The Molly Mutt site also offers savings when you create a kit online with a bed, bolster and stuff sack.
