When we have family get-together’s I’m in-charge of bringing the homemade broccoli salad. I got the recipe about 4 years ago online and I’ve been making it ever since. Matter of fact, everyone requests it! My daughter who is not a big fan of broccoli will even eat this!
The recipe is very easy-to-make and once you have it prepared, you’ll want to refrigerate it for 4-6 hours to allow the flavors to infuse. It’s best served chilled and you always want to refrigerate any leftovers promptly.
Note: Sometimes if I have fresh carrots on hand, I’ll finely shred up one carrot and toss that into this salad too. The recipe calls for cheddar cheese but you can use your favorite cheese or cheese blend. Again, I’ll toss in what I have on hand.
Homemade Broccoli Salad Recipe
4-5 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 heads fresh broccoli, chopped
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 medium red onion, chopped
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/8 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon lemon juice
In a large bowl, combine the chopped broccoli, cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon and the copped red onion.
In a separate mixing bowl whisk together the red wine vinegar, granulated sugar, ground black pepper, salt, mayonnaise and the lemon juice until blended. Pour the prepared dressing over the broccoli salad, stirring to combine all ingredients together. Cover your bowl and refrigerate for several hours before serving.

I just made a similar salad using lemon juice instead of vinegar and some olives.
I make this salad but minus the cheese. I put candied cashews and golden raisins in mine and it always gets demolished at parties. People really like it!
I have never had broccoli salad. I have seen it, and it looks alot like coleslaw with a twist. It looks quite goodand would be a bit different as a side dish for summer picnics. I will have to give this a try. I have seen the bagged slaw fixings just lately.
I love this. I always ‘flash’ the broccoli for a few seconds in boiling water (then drain it very thoroughly); it makes it very glossy though still full of snap.
