I love the smell of my husband’s cooking. He’s usually whipping up something delicious and he loves trying new recipes, which is why I jumped at the chance to check out a new cookbook called Cooking with Beer by Mark Dredge. This cookbook features recipes that contain lagers, IPAs, wheat beer, stouts and more to create over 65 wonderful recipes. This book is sure to keep my husband busy in the kitchen for months! This, however, is not good for my diet, but I’ll manage.
Mark Dredge is a self-confessed beer geek that decided to combine two of his passions – great brews and delicious food – to come up with this book’s recipes using beer as a key ingredient.
The book features a great and informative introduction about using beer in the kitchen, how to pair beer and food to create a harmonious meal, top tips for cooking with beer and if you aren’t up to speed on your beer styles, there’s a section that will help you understand the different categories. Cooking with Beer contains 6 chapters of recipes that include everything from breakfast, snacks and starters to heavier main courses and even desserts and sweets. One of my favorite parts of the book is a section called the Ultimate Meal section, which contains a recipe for The Ultimate Beer Burger. This burger looks insanely delicious with its beer onions and beer-carmelized bacon. Bacon, beer, burger…heaven. We’re trying it out this weekend!
As a baker, I’m looking forward to trying my skill at the Double IPA Carrot Cake recipe that is including in the Sweet Things chapter. It’ made with a Double IPA beer and if you are a rebel and don’t want milk with your cake, the book even gives suggestions on which type of beer to pair with it.
Some of the other recipes featured in this cookbook include:
• Hefeweizen French Toast
• Mexican Lager and Corn Soup
• Belgian Beef Brisket
• Beer Chicken Parma
• IPA and Cheddar Cheese Barley Risotto
• Beer Soda Bread
In addition to all of these tasty recipes, the Cooking with Beer cookbook also features beautiful photos that will have your mouthwatering in no time. This would be a great gift for anyone that likes to cook. You can purchase Cooking with Beer: Use lagers, IPAs, wheat beers, stouts, and more to create over 65 delicious recipes from Amazon and it’s a great gift!

THis would be an awesome book for my husband. We always use beer in our bbq sauce when grilling and I know he would love more ideas on how to use beer when cooking. THanks for sharing.
I have never cooked with beer , but would be willing to try different recipes.
On my side of the family, we make a Swedish bread called Vortbrod, which is a Christmas Bread. I use one cup of dark beer and 1 cup of Porter. I wonder if this book has the recipe?? It is a fantastic bread with raisins, ginger and cloves. Very tasty and special.
I used to make this really good bread using beer (it acted as the ‘yeast’ so it rose, lol.) I haven’t tried it in years, but I ought to try it again. This book looks interesting!
I’ve not cooked with beer but remember my grandma making beer battered fried fish we caught at the lake, when I was a kid. I don’t eat fried foods or drink beer now so guess I lived it up then–just didn’t know it!
The only thing I have ever cooked with beer is beer canned chicken. It tasted fine, you couldnt taste the beer much though. Sounds like an interesting book though, and would be a change of flavor.
I had ham several years ago that was cooked with a can of beer and it was so yummy. I would really like to check these recipes out thanks for sharing this one. This would be perfect for an adult get together this summer.
ooh I love this! I have cooked with beer a couple of times, and it is so good. I especially want to try chili. I want this!
You know what’s great cooked in beer, shrimp! they just go together.
