For most people, a small kitchen automatically means perpetual take-outs and microwave dinners. Besides, how can you successfully prepare a meal in such a tiny space? However, with a little creativity and some extra dedication, you can easily transform your small kitchen into a spacious culinary haven where you’ll enjoy preparing and serving wonderful meals. Here are a few tips on how to create more space in your kitchen.
1. Make Use of Hidden Compartments
In many cases, people tend to overlook several hidden compartments which can be utilized for extra storage space. When was the last time you used your oven? Unless you run a bakery from your home, there’s a high chance that you’ll only use your oven a few times a week. This means that you can easily use this space to store extra cooking and baking utensils.
Is your garbage can taking up too much floor space in the kitchen? Why not place it in the sink cabinet. Most people avoid storing utensils under the sink due to the possibility of humidity and contamination. However, this valuable space doesn’t have to go to waste. By placing your garbage can under the sink, it will not only save you space, but it will also make it very convenient for you to throw out leftover food while washing dishes.
2. Buy Extra Storage Equipment
Many people assume that this may be counter-productive, however in certain cases; purchasing new equipment will actually save you more space. Be sure to look out for storage items that have several compartments such as metro shelves or even a small cabinet. Such pieces can also double-up as extra counter tops thereby giving you a larger working space where you can prepare food.
For those who frequently host parties, wine fridges will come in handy for you. Not only do they create more space for food in your normal fridge, but they also help in keeping all your wine bottles neat and properly organized.
3. Efficient Washing and Storing of Dishes
Have you ever noticed how congested a room looks when there’s clutter everywhere? Well, it’s the same with your kitchen. In order to maintain a spacious environment, you should always clear the counter and wash dirty dishes as soon as possible so as to get rid of unnecessary clutter. Furthermore, be sure to organize your kitchen utensils in a systematic way in order to save up on space in the kitchen cabinets. For example, by placing pots and pans together, you can easily place the smaller pots inside the larger ones thereby maximizing on space.

I have used or still use most of these tips to create more space in my kitchen. It is not that itis so small, but I love kitchen items and I have a lot of them.
The place we live has the worst kitchen lay-out ever. It’s a big room, but whoever designed it crammed the actual kitchen into one end & left the rest open for, I guess, the World’s biggest dining table, lol. We wound up buying extra shelves & hutches to use as storage & putting them in that part of the room, but it’s not very convenient.
I live in a very old house. Everything is nested and there is no room. My only option would be to expand or just get rid of half of all of it. Every time I think of clearing something out though, I need it!
I hardly ever use my oven for baking so I do keep some pans in there. I’ve been good about removing them when I do need the oven.
You forgot nesting! It’s amazing what will eat inside of what. the trick is remembering where you nested what.
