It’s that time of the year when I swap out the boots and closed-toe shoes and pull out the sandals and open-toe shoes. I love wearing my summer shoes, but miss the feeling of having on socks, but a sock with a sandal? Someone call the Fashion Police STAT!
A sweaty and slippery bare foot in an adorable sandal can really put a damper on summer fun, especially if the result of those sweaty feet is a stinky, smelly shoe. I’m sure we’ve all been there at one point. I was recently sent a product called SummerSox by Pizzo Innovations that solves this common problem. SummerSox first debuted in 2011 and provides a soft, comfortable layer between your feet and your shoe insoles to keep feet from slipping around, keep them cool and dry in the summer heat, and cozy and warm in the winter.
SummerSox are made in the USA and designed to be ultra-thin, so they don’t affect the sizing of your shoe. They also have a proprietary adhesive technology that allows them to be removed, machine washed and used over and over again. This is a great feature and helps keep your feet fresh and odor free.
I received two pairs of SummerSox – the Full Style and the Thong Style, both in black. I really like the Full Style and used them on a pair of my backless sandals. They definitely made the shoe feel more comfortable and it looked great since it was the same color as the leather on the shoe. This particular pair of sandals usually hurts my heel (as the shoe doesn’t have any padding or support in it) and that wasn’t the case with the SummerSox. My feet looked great, felt great and weren’t slip sliding around all day. As I mentioned, SummerSox are made of a thin, soft fabric that fits easily into your shoes or sandals and are specially designed to stick to clean, dry insoles. Something to note is that the inserts won’t stick well to fabric or deeply grooved or textured surfaces. The adhesive on one of mine wasn’t staying on the top part of the shoe very well, so they puckered a little in the middle. The shoe had a tiny part of texture at the top of it, which I think caused it to do this. I still loved how they felt on my feet though.
What I think is really unique and awesome about this product is that you can use them again and again and with different shoes. You can use and re-use, stick and unstick on whatever shoes you choose! I was skeptical that the adhesive would remain sticky after washing (and drying), but it did! They can be re-used for months or even years, which makes it a very green option, especially if you were using flimsy, disposable inserts before.
