For those of you who have never visited Philadelphia before, let me tell you…there are a ton of things to see and do! Philly, also called the city of brotherly love attractions millions of visitors every year and is located in southeast Pennsylvania, right along the border with New Jersey.
When you visit Philly, you’ll find that the city is a big mixing bowl of various cultures and is always hosting some type of event. When you visit, you can take in a music concert, art show, visit a museum, enjoy some indoor and/or outdoor gardens, visit historical sites like the liberty bell and Independence Hall, take in a sporting event and so much more!
On one of our recent visits we took in a sporting even during the evening hours but during the daytime…we visited Philadelphia City Hall so that I could finally see the William Penn statue that sits on the top. Penn is the founding father of Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania was named after him.
The building was constructed in the second empire style and if you look closely at it you’ll see a clock. Well, there are actually four clocks, one on each side and yes, they do work and tell you the correct time!
You can’t tell by this photo, but it’s quite a large building with almost 700 rooms! You’ll find the mayor’s office, city council and the court of common pleas are all housed at Philadelphia City Hall in Pennsylvania.
Well, there you have it! My “almost” Wordless Wednesday travel photo for this week! Have you ever visited Philly before? If so, what did you see and do while there?
I have never been to Philly before but looking at this photo makes me want to visit. I love that there is a clock on each side of the building. It looks like a well maintained and historical city.
What a dramatic photo! Generally, I’m not a fan of big cities, but Philly is definitely on my list of places I’d like to visit some day. Thanks for posting your picture and the information about historic City Hall.
I’ve always wanted to see Philadelphia. It would be a great city to see with kids, because of all the history, too.
My older son lives in NJ near the Penn. border. We have gone with him several times to attend an event in Philadelphia. I would love to go there more often and explore all the museums, streets and gardens.
