Movie Review – A Royal Night Out

May 13, 2016 by Shelly

Movie - A Royal Night OutAre any of you big fans of the Royal Family? If so, you’ll want to check out this brand new movie DVD release called “A Royal Night Out” starring Sarah Gadon, Bel Powley, Jack Reynor, Rupert Everett and Emily Watson. It was just released on DVD on May 5th, 2016.

Inspired by true events, A Royal Night Out is a charming romantic comedy that recounts the glorious celebration of the end of World War II in Europe — and the singular evening when Princess Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) and Princess Margaret (Bel Powley) leave the confines of Buckingham Palace to join the festivities. Quickly giving their chaperones the slip, the young royals venture out into London for a whirlwind adventure filled with excitement, danger and the flutters of first love.

Check out this brief film clip:

Co-starring Rupert Everett, Emily Watson and Jack Reynor, A Royal Night Out is a fanciful tale about two real-life princesses who long to feel normal on the most extraordinary night of their lives!

My Thoughts: I typically am not into comedies or romance flicks, but I’m making an exception with this movie! It’s a combination comedy/romance film with just a tad of drama thrown in to keep it interesting.  At the beginning of the movie I felt it started out a little slow but within 15 or 20 minutes…I thought it really picked up and held my interest.

The story line is very interesting and at different parts in the movie you’ll laugh and at other parts you cheer the young ladies on. I am unfamiliar with these actors/actresses, but thought they did a really great acting job in this particular movie.

The movie is inspired by true events and one of the things I absolutely LOVED about the movie was seeing the period costumes and clothing. Yeah, as a woman, I’m drawn to that for sure!

Overall…I’m giving the film 7 popcorn buckets out of 10 popcorn buckets on my movie rating entertainment scale.

This does look like a movie I would enjoy a lot. Sometimes, you just want a movie that doesn’t have car chases & explosions & superheroes, lol.

I am an Anglophile and would love to see this! I’ve always had an interest in the Royal family. I think that it was so unfair that Princess Margaret couldn’t marry her true love, Group Captain Peter Townsend.
