Understanding the House Water Filtration System

Installing a house water filtration system is the next best idea you will ever have. Water often seems pretty innocent but it comes with so many contaminants that have adverse short term and long term effects on your health. This has made many people to search for where to find whole house water filtration system.

A house water filtration system is installed to purify all the water that comes into your home so all your faucets produce clean and contaminant free water.

How a water filtration system works

A water filtration system is made up of different filter media that have the ability to draw specific contaminants from the water as it passes through. The water filtration system is designed to allow for maximum water contact with the filter media to ensure all the targeted impurities are removed from the water. When looking for where to find a whole house water filtration system, ensure to choose a company with a proven track record of quality equipment. A failing filtration system will allow too much water to pass through without proper contact, or have inadequate filter media for contaminant extraction among other possible problems.

Design features

A good water filtration system uses plates to keep the different media separate at two key points. These plates makes the filter more effective by preventing channeling since the water will always try to use the quickest paths through the filter media. Using a sanitizing back wash feature can also keep the media layers clean and fluffy. This cleaning feature is important to maintain the quality of the filter media. Degradation occurs with accumulation of dirt.

Types of filter media

Filter media are types of substances that have the unique ability to trap specific water contaminants. The filtration system uses various filter media since each can only address one or two contaminants in the water. For an effective filtering process, and required results, a combination of different filter media is necessary.

* Kinetic degradation fluxion media: this is a pre-filter media that increases the effectiveness of the filtration system. It gets rid of chlorine from the water along with controlling bacterial growth, and removing lead, mercury and other metals.

* Filter Ag is a non-hydrous silicon dioxide media used in filtration systems to reduce suspended matter. It is a lightweight material with irregular surface characteristics that makes for finer filtration and less pressure loss.

* Activated coconut shell carbon is also another product used in the removal of chlorine and chlorinated solvents. It is a better option to bituminous coal based carbon since it’s harder and tolerates more backwash.

* Centaur catalytic adsorptive carbon can remove both chloramine and hydrogen sulphide (rotten egg smell) from water It is also a great material for VOC removal along with bad water taste. Centaur Catalytic Adsorptive carbon is used today because it is much more efficient as compared to traditional activated carbons.

* Garnet is also used in the filtration system to trap sediments and remove much largest solids from the water including dirt and rocks.
The specific properties and qualities of the materials used determines how effective the water filter works.

I have always been happy with the water in my neighborhood. Sometimes I use a water filtration pitcher, but I am lucky that the tap water is good here.

  2. I didn’t know that there was so much detail that went into water filtration systems. But we have seen how important it is to have clean and safe water for our families. Really want someone that knows what they are doing designing these systems.

This post is fascinating to me, because it seems so exotic. I have always been an apartment dweller, and never had to think about things like a house water filter. I guess it must be expensive, but worth it, to filter out all the nasties from the pipes. Coconut shells! Garnet! You’ve opened up a whole new world for me!
