Time for a fun but informative post here on the Two Classy Chics blog. Many of you have been following this blog for years and others may be relatively new to this lifestyle blog. Well guess what? Today I am going to share with you a few things I bet ya didn’t know about me!
10 Things You Didn’t Know About Shelly
1. When I was a young teenager I wanted to grow up to be a flight attendant. However…when I was 17 years old I changed direction and ended up becoming a nurse. Yes, a nurse! I retired from that profession back in the mid 1990’s due to health problems.
2. I am allergic to tree nuts but I can have regular nuts like peanuts. My allergy to tree nuts started when I was 14 and ended up in the hospital ICU after ingesting walnuts. Needless to say…I now hate tree nuts!
3. As you all know…I have one living child. My daughter Jenelle is a reviewer here on the TCC Blog. What you don’t know is that I was pregnant 5 times and lost 4 babies. I lost three during miscarriages and one was ectopic and was surgically removed. I treasure my daughter Jenelle because she is a wonderful gift from god!
4. I got married to my husband at age 18. We were BOTH preached at that I was too young to get married and certainly not to a man who was 8 years older than myself. Luckily for us…we didn’t listen to any of them and got married. We just celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary earlier this month.
5. I love animals…well, most animals! The animals that I despise and can do without are: snakes, spiders, mosquitoes, bees (allergic), fruit flies, house flies, worms, beetles, etc. Gross me out!!! Nasty!!!
6. If I could travel to any country in the world outside of the United States I would want to travel to and visit the country of Belize. Hey…did you know it’s a HOT honeymoon spot? Perhaps it would make a great 31st wedding anniversary destination!
7. If I could travel to any area within the United States I would pick the outerbanks of North Carolina. Oh my gosh…it’s so beautiful and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to live there!
8. I used to have long hair, really long hair! About 8 years ago my hair was down to almost the top of my waist. I decided to have it cut off and to go short. I donated all of that hair to Locks of Love! Great charity and if you have long hair and wish to go short…I highly recommend Locks of Love.
9. I have a few fetishes or obsessions! I like a very neat, clean and organized home. Dirt and dust drives me batty! I must have my toes and nails painted at all times (hate naked nails). I have to sleep with my feet uncovered and with no socks on! If you cover them up or make me wear socks to bed, well…I will wake up every hour and be miserable! When I sleep, I have to have complete quietness and no lights on.
10. I was a popular kid in school but never left it go to my head and I was never snotty to others. I treated all people the same. I didn’t have to have the best of everything growing up and was content in school to be just who I was…never pretended to be anything that I wasn’t. Not all popular kids are brats!
Well, there you have it! Ten things you didn’t know about me! I hope this little blog post has helped you to get to know me a little bit better. Now…tell me something about you?

Wow…what a beautiful, honest post. Thank you for this glimpse (for I know this only a fraction of the woman you are) into you. You have had a lot of tragedies, triumphs, and blessings, and you are very strong. My daughter tells me I am, too. Life sends us many things. I married young (16) and have been with him ever since. I am blessed with two children, a boy and girl. My daughter has had many health issues and lives at home. My son has a boy and a girl, and our granddaughters are about the same age. They live in Florida (not close), and I wish they’d move to the Carolinas. They really want to and I would love to visit. Although, if I could travel anywhere in the US, I’d love to go to the northeast and see the lighthouses. Lighthouses have always appealed to me, and I have never been up that way. Traveling outside the US would be Australia…those beaches look beautiful!!!
If you don’t mind me asking a couple questions….you don’t have to answer and they’re easy….
I won’t say favorite restaurant but what restaurant/food place would you love to go to with your husband the next time you go out?
What is something you would love to do with your grandkids?
Ahhhh! I love reading your comments Sherry. Every time I see you somewhere online, it makes me smile. Your life sounds a lot like mine, although I don’t have any kids living at home anymore. My grandkids are here a LOT though! If I could go to any restaurant…it would probably be Texas Roadhouse or Outback. I’m a steaks type of gal. If I could do anything with the kids that I haven’t already done with them…it would be to take them camping at a lake in the mountains somewhere. Although, the Princess would be upset…she loves it when we take her down to the beach with us, she loves the beach!
I always enjoy your posts. I am streaks girl myself. It’s National prime rib day. Maybe you can celebrate this weekend. Camping is so much fun with kids. My grandkids come stay here for a week every summer, and we always spend a day at the lake, boating and tubing. Hope you get to soon, but I understand your granddaughter’s love of the beach.
Thanks for sharing this personal information. I am impressed that you married so young and have a successful marriage. I got married at 22 and felt that I was young compared to my friends but we will celebrate out 40th soon.
Congrats on the upcoming 40th wedding anniversary Mia!
What a fun post! Thanks for sharing the real you, Shelly. Some fun, some funny, some sad, but all you. Here’s something you don’t know about me: I used to play guitar and sing! I wrote my own songs and performed at local coffeehouses and bars. I even made a recording! After I developed respiratory issues, I couldn’t sing any more, so that chapter closed. Sure did enjoy it while it lasted, though.
Thanks Anne. I think being a musician would be fun! I’ve learned over the years that when one door closes, another one opens. It might not open up right away, but it will. I certainly know how health problems can take you in a different direction. I guess getting sick and being chronically ill for over half of my life has shaped me into the type of person that I am today. I like who I am!
Good for you, to be so positive even in the face of chronic illnesses. It’s something I struggle with. Anyway, the musical part of my life was indeed a highlight. I met a lot of interesting people, and in fact, I married a musician! He eventually hung up his guitar, too, but it was something we had in common.
I really liked reading all about you! How awesome that you did not listen to anyone and got married and have been married 30 years. How awesome that you were a nurse. And I do not like clutter in my home and have to have it neat too! Thanks for sharing your very interesting things about you.
I enjoyed reading these facts abut you. I like that you donated your hair to Locks of Love. I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages and know that makes you appreciate your daughter even more. I too sleep with my feet uncovered.
Wow…I do have a lot in common with many of you ladies! I feel it’s important that readers get to know the blog owner/writer. As a Lifestyle blogger, I don’t and I won’t spam ads & promos at my readers 24/7. It’s important to put up informative content that’s not sponsored by anyone too. A blog should be looked at like a magazine…a combination of informative content and ads (after all, our blogs are NOT free and we do have expenses & bills to pay too). I also believe it’s important to let the owner’s personality to shine through. Just like all of you…I’m a real person!
This reminds me of the column in Us magazine “25 Things You Didn’t Know About Me.” Lol, it’s interesting! It’s nice to know new things about you.
It’s good to get to know a little more about you Shelly, I think that I have been following your blog since 2011? I am in my late fifties and it’s just hubby and I living in our home now. I have four children three boys and a daughter (the baby) and my husband has a son and daughter. I have one three year old grandson named Lyle whom I adore and thank God for all the time. I cook and clean for an elderly lady named Ann who has parkinson disease seven days a week. I know her through our local VFW club that I also do a lot of volunteering for. We have two cats, a black one named Ozzy, and a orange and white long haired cat named Buddy. I am not a big fan of bugs either, also allergic to bee stings now. I enjoy camping with the family, reading, and of course entering giveaways. I had quite a scare here recently when I was sent for a CT scan by my family doctor right before Valentine’s Day this year. They found a four pound tumor on one of my fallopian tubes and set up a surgery for removal two weeks later. That first week was a hard one to go through because it can take up to seven days before they get the results back on the cancer blood work markers. Thankfully came back non- cancerous. I didn’t even tell any of the family members because I didn’t want them worrying until we knew more. I had to be cut open from the belly button down, and they removed all the girly parts too. ( now it seems that I have more hot flashes than ever!) My third oldest son will be getting married to a great girl next year, he proposed this past Valentine’s Day to her. I go to sleep with the TV on, I wear socks when my feet are cold, and I wish that I were more organized than I am right now. And I am hoping to get some more grandchildren someday. Oh, I forgot to mention that I have three brothers, two older and one younger. I am the only girl! I have always liked that.
I am a longtime follower… and you and I would get along famously! I although can have the nuts. We have tons in common- even unfortunately the ectopic part. I have one daughter too and in June is my 30th. My hubby isnt older though he acts older.
You always seem so nice here, and I love how you have your Mom too in the pictures. Your sites is one I always come back to, its like a nice homey place, and I am glad you got into blogging.
Loved this post!
The only thing that I know I’m allergic to is latex and it’s pretty easy to avoid. I’m a volunteer-aholic and have 4 or 5 places that I volunteer, my favorite being the Denver Botanic Gardens.
Well, now I really feel I know you! You ended up a nurse, something I wanted to be since I was 8, but got talked out of. I’ve regretted that I wan’t strong enough to follow my own way, instead of my parents’. I’m not allergic to nuts, but DEADLY allergic to Bactrim. Let’s hope I never get another UTI ! I have 1 living chld too, but we don’t speak. I had 1 miscarriage, and never conceived again after that. I got married at age 22, stayed married for 22 years, divorced, then married someone else for 1 1/2 years. I am now single and a caregiver to my mom and disabled brother. My favorite animals are birds and reptiles, though I rehabed a total of 16 dogs between 2005-2007 who had been abandoned in the desert outside of Vegas. They were all adopted into good homes. If I could to travel to any country it would be France, and any other state it would be Hawaii. I’ve never had long hair. I have OCD. The best years of my lofe were in high school. Someone really loved me. My parents took care of that though, since the races/religions didn’t match up. Now you know me! TMI?????
Hi Shelly, this was so fun to read and to learn more about you. I am so very sorry for the loss of your babies that is just heartbreaking. We are so similar in so many ways lets see: 1. I LOVE animals and pretty much hate the ones that you named the only other one that I would add would be I hate Hyenas! 2. I must have total quiet and darkness when I sleep I use a sleep mask for my eyes. 3. I love the ocean. 4. I love to write and am thinking about writing a book. 5. I love movies. 6. I have been to Europe and I would love to see Australia. 7. I am allergic to dust and am a clean freak too. 8. I love painting. That’s all I can think of at the moment.
I too am an animal lover. I have a menagerie of dogs and cats.
