Kid’s Craft Project – Beaded Stretch Bracelets

March 5, 2016 by Shelly

Kids Crafts - Beaded BraceletsLuckily for me…I love to craft and so does my little 6 1/2 year old grand daughter. A couple times every month we get together for “craft dates” and whip up all kinds of crafty things. Many of these crafts we’ve shared right here on the blog!

Well, we are back again today with a fun little project for girls. We whipped up several of these beaded stretch bracelets last month and each one takes less than 20 minutes to make. The Princess kept a few of them and gave out the rest to her friends. Here is what you need and how you can make them.

Note: We bought a variety pack of plastic beads from the local craft store for $3.99. It had different colored, shaped and sized beads within the pack. Each pack will make approximately 4-8 bracelets depending on pack size and wrist size.

Kid’s Craft Project – Beaded Stretch Bracelets

Plastic Beads in Various Colors (see note above)
Elastic Jewelry Cord
Scissors
Scotch Tape

The first thing that you need to do is measure the child’s wrist and then double that measurement. Use scissors and cut a piece of elastic jewelry cord that exact size. Tape one end of the jewelry cord down onto your work surface.

Thread beads onto the elastic cord until you have a length that is the exact measurement of the child’s wrist, not the doubled size measurement. Tie a knot at each end of your beaded strand to secure the last bead into place on each end.

Wrap this around the child’s bracelet and tie several knots into place to sure it into a bracelet shape. It should fit “barely” snug around their wrist…remember, this is stretchy so you want it to fit snug, but not tight. Once you’ve tied your knots into place, use scissors to trim up the ends. That’s it, you’ve made a simple bracelet!

This is such a fun idea for young girls, especially. My niece loves these kinds of bracelets. She would love making her own.

This is a fun craft and also lets the child make bracelets or necklaces for friends and family members.

My granddaughter love to make necklaces and bracelets with a set of bead that I found on sale at our local craft store. It can keep than occupied for hours as they decide on particular colors and beads. Well worth the few dollars I spent.

I have tons and tons of these beads! My nieces come over and we love to play I like making the stretch bracelets they are easy for the kids to do, and they pick their own colors. The kids like making these too for their friends and go home with bracelets on their arms! We have made necklaces anklets, and even rings. This is ufn, inexpensive and is a great rainy or winter day craft.

I think it’s wonderful that you do this type of craft project with your granddaughter. When I was a kid, I loved making things, but I was pretty much on my own. I didn’t take up jewelry making until my late forties! Your Princess is going to grow up knowing the satisfaction of making something beautiful and useful. Good for you both!

I’ve seen some fancy kits to make kid’s bracelets but just simple beads and elastic cord like this are a great start. I used to love going to the craft stores and looking at the new beads. Easy for kids to learn and give to others as friendship bracelets.

That’s a fun craft. You might find odd beads at the thrift store or dollar store too.
