Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

March 10, 2016 by Shelly

Chocolate Rice Krispies TreatsMy mother has been making these Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats for many years. With that said, I’ve also heard people refer to the name of them as Chocolate Scotcheroos. Whatever you choose to call them, they sure are YUMMY good! Here’s the recipe that my mom uses!

Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup Karo syrup
1 cup smooth peanut butter
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
6 oz. bag Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats

Bring the sugar and Karo syrup to a full boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat. Blend in the smooth peanut butter and then the Rice Krispies cereal.

Press into a buttered 13″ by 9″ glass baking dish. Make sure it’s pressed down into an even layer. Melt the 6 oz. bag of semi-sweet chocolate morsels in the microwave or on the stove-top. Spread the melted chocolate over the top of the Rice Krispies. Let it cool at room temperature for about an hour and then cut into squares. Store squares in an air tight container.

Thanks mom for sharing the recipe with The Classy Chic’s blog readers and for making me some yummy treats last week!

Oh trust me….the peanut butter totally puts these over the top! Since trying them with peanut butter, I won’t go back to making them the traditional way.

How great a combination this is: rice krispies with chocolate, and then peanut butter as well. Everyone will love these treats.

I like the addition of the peanut butter. Also like any recipe that has only a few ingredients and I know that I already have all the ingredients handy in my pantry. This looks super yummy.

My youngest nephew would be nuts for these! For myself, I might add even more chocolate, lol. There’s no such thing as too much chocolate!

Adding peanut butter and chocolate to rice krispie treats is a winning idea! the last time I made krispie treats in dinosaur cutouts nobody ate them! shocked, but now I will it this way – I don’t want to use the oven sometimes!

Peanut butter, chocolate and rice crispies? How can you go wrong with that combination? Never tried it before but will now.

    Thanks, Shelly’s Mom! 🙂
It’s been ages since I’ve made Rice Krispies Treats. And I just happen to have most of a package of the cereal in the kitchen right now. The chocolate layer puts theses right over the top, but I admit that I have the worst time melting chocolate–it always seizes on me, no matter what I do. Still, these look so good….
