Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving

Ball Book of Home PreservingI’ve been doing home preserving or some form of home canning for the past 25+ years. I love to get into my kitchen and make up a few batches of homemade jam, jellies, conserves, chutney, soft spreads and more. These little treasures are always welcomed at my table, especially during the winter season when freshly made foods dwindle quickly.

Ball is the company that I always turn to when it comes to preserving my family’s food. I love how easy their recipes are to follow and I love all of their get started quickly guides that you can find out there on the internet. If your new to home preserving or just need to freshen up on your skills, you definitely need the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving in your collection.

Easy Grape Jam Recipe

Last year I made over 250 jars of  canned fruits, jellies, jams and preserves! Yup, over 250 jars of edible goodies stocked my pantry well this past Fall and Winter season. Almost all of the recipes that I used were recipes from Ball or Ball recipes that had slight changes made to them.

This book features user-friendly recipes that will appeal to novice & experienced canners alike and it includes an extensive  glossary  that identifies from ingredients to canning equipment to instructions. I really love that this book includes The Home Canning Problem Solver, which provides answers to virtually every question & problem regarding home canning and preserving.

There are 7 comprehensive chapters including: getting started, soft spreads, fabulous fruits, salsa, relish, chutney, condiments, perfect pickles, tomatoes and pressure canning. If you’re doing any type of home canning or preserving, this is definitely one of those “MUST-HAVE” books for your collection.

You can find this title and many other fine cookbooks and foodie books by shopping at Robert Rose online.

I used to help can but havent done itt for many years. I mostly freeze now, and for us it is easier. Believe it or not, I do have one of thee original Ball canning books from my Aunt. I like looking at it. I think if I went back to canning it would likely be meats and such when theey are on sale. It looks like a great book!

  3. I would love to have this book. Sounds like they have so many wonderful recipes. I would also love to learn how to can food. I think canning is such an important skill to have especially in this day and age. Thank you for sharing this one and have a nice day.

I have been canning (again) now for about 5 years. My mother and I used to do this when I was a kid. I have this book, indispensable.

  5. Thanks for the recommendation. I love canning, although I’ve only been doing it for a few years. I was lucky enough to win the Preservation Society Home Preserves book over at In The Kitchen With Shelly. I’ve had my eye on this Ball book for a while; good to know that you like it.

  6. These recipes are wow wow and wow!! Not the usual at all. I would love to try home preserving, I have a dehydrator, but don’t use it much because electricity is expensive and you need to run it like 12 hours at 1000 watts to dry anything. This book sounds wonderful.
