National Geographic Guide to National Parks of the United States

February 24, 2016 by Shelly

Guide to National Parks in the United StatesJust in time for the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary, National Geographic Guide to National Parks of the United States, has been 100% redesigned and updated with all-new information and maps. It was first published in 1989 and has sold more than 1.25 million copies. For the new eighth edition, contributors revisited all 59 national parks to conduct intensive on-the-ground research to ascertain the best spots for viewing scenery, wildlife, sunsets and more.

Title: Guide to National Parks of the United States
By: National Geographic
ISBN: 978-1426216510

This comprehensive guide contains up-to-the minute, practical advice for national park lovers and visitors. The newest information for each park includes a brief history, engaging descriptions, travel planning tips, detailed itineraries and directions, activities for the whole family, lists of lodges, hotels and campgrounds within the park and visitor contact information.

One of the things I love about the book is all of the beautiful photography found within it’s pages. There are over 220 color photos, 80 full-color maps and all of the national parks are broken down by region. It’s really easy to find what your looking for and you can consult the index in the back to make it even easier.

The guide covers 59 national scenic parks from the rock mountain area, to the pacific northwest and over to the east…as well as every area in between, including Alaska. Each section gives you the information that you’ll want to know and I love that they left out all of the “fluff”. The maps are in full-color and are extremely detailed & definitely up-to-date!

As a seasoned traveler, I love having books and guides like this to help us plan our trips. Not only that, I love finding new places to visit and this guide will definitely inspire some new places to add to your travel bucket list. I think it’s fantastic and it’s a great addition to our travel book library.

Living in the Midwest as a kid, we always visited my family out in the West. I’ve been to Yellowstone National Park several times and would love to go again. I prefer traveling in the U.S. so would love to visit many more parks and this would be a great book to read for planning.
