Italian Style Cheesy Meatball Sandwiches Recipe

February 16, 2016 by Shelly

Italian Cheesy Meatball Sandwiches Recipe*This post was created in partnership with al fresco.

Looking for an easy-to-prepare and quick lunch idea? If so, from start to finish, you can make these hot sandwiches in less than 30 minutes!

For this recipe, we used the al fresco Italian Style Frozen Meatballs with fresh basil and mozzarella. These meatballs contain 50% less fat than beef or pork meatballs. They are made out of chicken and are fully cooked. You can reheat them in the microwave oven, regular oven or on the stove-top.

This recipe was adapted from the al fresco Italian Style Meatball Sliders recipe on their web site.

Italian Style Cheesy Meatball Sandwiches Recipe

1 pkg. al fresco Italian style frozen meatballs
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms, cooked
2 cups Italian style spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup Italian 3-cheese blend shredded cheese
potato rolls

Note: I like my potato rolls untoasted but my husband prefers his toasted. You can enjoy them either way.

Take the meatballs out of the freezer and reheat them via your preferred method. You do NOT need to thaw them out! While they are reheating, saute some sliced mushrooms in a little bit of butter or oil. Remove from heat.

In a large saucepan combine together the reheated meatballs, cooked sliced mushrooms and the Italian style spaghetti sauce. Heat over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes or everything is heated through and hot.

Spoon the meatballs, mushrooms and sauce onto a potato roll. We can fit 3-4 meatballs per roll. Sprinkle the Italian shredded cheese on top. Serve immediately.

This sounds like a delicious meatball sandwich . I do love the Al Fresco products. I think I would add some fresh spinach on top of my meatballs.

The last time I made a big batch of meatballs, I used some in calzones, which were pretty tasty. I’ve still got some of the meatballs in the freezer, and I like the idea of using them in a sandwich. I also like the idea of meatballs made from chicken. Thanks!

This is a comfort food for me. I grew up with meatball sandwiches and Sunday spaghetti and meatball suppers with the whole family. Looks so delicious and easy to make.

I like meatballs in spaghetti. I can never quite eat them in a sandwich like this. They always fall out.

I love to make these. My husband won’t eat pasta (it’s bizarre, I don’t know why), but he loves meatballs. I have a small slow cooker, and I put them in there with the sauce. That way we can have them when we want.
